Freddie Matara
Freddie Matara got his first taste of Leatherwork
in the 90's while working at a Western themed
apparel store on South Street in Philadelphia.
Back then it was just punching holes to size
leather belts and dyeing boot soles. The true
impetus arrived after he made the move to New
York City. Bartending and fronting his rock band
"Birthday" Freddie enjoyed wearing interesting
leather cuffs on stage and off. Unable to find
deeply designed soulfully crafted cuffs in his size he decided to make his own. It started
with a cuff he designed around a watch face he found on the street. It was an instant classic
and the exact design is still available in his online store! Under pressure from his peers to
take his leather work further, he purchased more tools and leather and set up a small shop
in the living room of his Manhattan apartment. Shortly thereafter he opened an online
store on eBay and sold out his offerings in a week.
Since then he's moved on and has a full service
leather workshop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn only
a mile from where he resides. He has logged over
20,000 hours on the bench and continually strives
to master and pioneer new techniques in working
leather and more recently precious metal. His
catalog has increased to include Guitar straps,
belts and various accessories. His clientele is vast
and runs the gamut of human life around the
globe.

From Rockstars to Educators. Physicians to Bikers and all walks in between, Freddie
doesn't miss an opportunity to create a unique custom piece for the most discerning
patrons. His products are available through his eBay store and by private appointment in
