Growing up in St. Catharines
heavily influenced my comedy
and writing. I’m not sure why.
It’s not really a comical city.
Although, I did always have
quite the chuckle during The
Grape and Wine Festival, but
since then I laugh because I’m
amazed at how impressive
it has grown. My funniest
memory was performing
in a play for Garden City
Productions. My whole family
came...and left at intermission.
No matter the season, your age or interests, we
have a festival or event waiting for you! From
the Niagara Wine Festival celebrating its 60th
anniversary, to the inaugural Busker Fest, there
is something for every taste.
Warm up this winter with the Downtown Chili
Cookoff. Experience spring in the city with
pancake weekends at White Meadows Farms
or check out In the Soil, a celebration of
St. Catharines’ arts scene. Welcome summer
with winery tours and live concerts in
With Fall comes the Niagara Wine Festival,
Born in St. Catharines and
growing up in Vineland, my
youth was positively idyllic.
Life has taken me many
places but it’s still hard to beat
a summer’s day at Lakeside
Park, a winter walk at Ball’s
Falls, driving the surrounding
country roads in autumn,
or riding a bike across “Red
Bridge” in Jordan. I had my
first fantastic friendships
here, my first employment -
working for the fruit farmers
- and my first singing lessons
from Mrs. Newman on
Glenridge Ave. My dad fell in
love with the true beauty of
this area when he first drove
over the escarpment and
down Victoria Avenue in
the 1950’s. And for that I am
eternally thankful.
St. Catharines has led farm to table cuisine for
decades. Our farmers work closely with our
local restaurants showcasing the best seasonal
fruits and vegetables in fresh and inspiring
new ways. Stop in at one of our many farm
gates or simply head to our Farmers’ Market to
I was born and raised in
St. Catharines and still some
of my fondest memories are
there. Whenever I go back I
love to haunt all the places
that were significant to me in
my childhood. Western Hill,
St. Paul Street and Montebello
Park. My first professional
shows were at the Lions
Tavern at the heart of the bar
Dalhousie - which is also a
nice place to spend the day.
All in all it was a great place
downtown & shopping
for everyone.
Experience Montebello Park, a place to escape
the hustle and bustle with a picnic lunch or
take in one of the evening concerts during the
warmer months.
Shopping doesn’t stop in the core, we have
boutique shops and candy stores in
Whenever I have a moment
free from touring with The
Canadian Tenors, I make my
way to St. Catharines. The city
has character, history and
some of the most beautiful
scenery I’ve ever seen. From
the crashing waves on a windy
day in old Port Dalhousie, to
the sounds of the ships arriving
through the Welland Canal;
one feels as though you’re in
a time capsule, in more than
one place at a time. There are
beautiful drives up through
lush greenery and wineries,
which are just minutes away
from the majestic gorge of the
falls. As an artist it’s a place
to dream big and be inspired
amongst the beauty of nature
the city holds. It is a safe place
where my family resides, it is
the home where my heart lies.
Experience St. Catharines‘ Cultural Evolution!
Heritage
St. Catharines is steeped in history and
continues to work hard to preserve an
impressive heritage. This was the final
stop of the Underground Railroad, the
route that U.S. slaves took to freedom
during the Civil War. Visit the British
Methodist Church and see the official
end of the Underground Railroad as
led by Harriet Tubman. The origins of
our city date back to native settlers. It
is the wife of the Honourable William
Hamilton Merrit, Catharine, to whom
we credit the “a” in St. Catharines (so the
story goes). The Merritt family, famous
for the founding of the Welland Canal,
built Rodman Hall and several other
important area landmarks.
Originally farmland, Port Dalhousie
was incorporated as a village in 1862
and soon became a thriving maritime
community. Port Dalhousie still carries
with it the timeless feeling of an historic
maritime city with old industrial
marine buildings and the Lakeside Park
Carousel. The St. Catharines Museum is
the keeper of many treasures. Perched
beside Lock 3 along the Welland Canal
it brings the city’s history to life with
award-winning interactive exhibits.
The Lock 3 complex also hosts the
Welland Canals Centre and is the
perfect vantage point to watch the
“ships climb the mountain”.
Downtown has a rich and storied past.
Book in for a Heritage Corridor Walk,
or brace yourself for the popular Ghost
Walking Tours.
In the southernmost part of the
city is Decew Falls set alongside the
I know when I’m in
St. Catharines, not by the
welcome sign on the QEW, but
by the feeling that I get when
I’m here. There’s no other city in
this world that gives off such a
strong community-like feeling.
Some of my fondest memories
were spent at Montebello
Park where strangers became
became close friends.
I am so grateful that I got to
spend my time growing up in
St. Catharines is a fantastic
city and I can’t wait for the
opportunity to meet new
people from all over the world
and introduce them to my
favourite pastimes in
my hometown.
Each season presents an agricultural
wonderland of cherry blossoms in spring, lush
green trails in summer, the golden fields of
fall, and flowing maple syrup in winter.
St. Catharines is a four season outdoor playland
