I. READING
Leonardo da Vinci lived in Italy over five hundred years
ago. He was born in 1452. He was one of the greatest
artists that the world has ever known. He was a
Renaissance painter, sculptor, inventor, architect and
engineer. Leonardo's interests were so broad. He was a
genius who was interested in everything around him. He
spent most of his time studying science, human anatomy
and physiology. He could play musical instruments and
sing. He was a poet and he loved playing jokes and tricks
on people.
Leonardo kept illustrated notebooks in which he wrote in a
secret mirror-writing about everything he found out. His
notebooks were on four main themes: architecture,
elements of mechanics, painting and human anatomy. After
his death his notebooks were forgotten for many years.
When they were found again people were amazed to see
the number of his inventions.
He described: an alarm clock, a submarine, a helicopter, a
parachute and advanced weapons. Today people travel
from all parts of the world to admire his paintings like “The
last supper”, “Mona Lisa”, “The Virgin of the Rocks” and
“Lady with an Ermine”, which you can see in Cracow.
