Provision of<br />

Basic Life<br />

To maintain adequate ventilation and circulation, which<br />

should be continued until Tier 2 help arrives;<br />

Support Pre-hospital scene safety and management skills;<br />

(BLS)<br />

Initial assessment and consultation with Site Medical<br />

Professional to establish immediate priorities;<br />

Vital life support including blood pressure using automated<br />

devices;<br />

Initiation of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, if required, to<br />

include:<br />

o Airway maintenance with spine protection;<br />

o Adequate ventilation – expired air<br />

o ventilation, bag-valve-mask device;<br />

o Maintain circulation – chest compressions<br />

combined with ventilation;<br />

o Early use of Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).<br />

Use of standard resuscitation aids, such as required<br />

byBasic Life Support.<br />

Airway management using external maneuvers, mouth-tomouth<br />

breathing or moth-to-mask breathing.<br />

Respiratory and cardiac emergencies, including<br />

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C<strong>PR</strong>) and the use of AED.<br />

Recognition of diabetic, anaphylaxis, environmental,<br />

behavioral and obstetrical emergencies by simple history.<br />

Recognition of external bleeding and shock and obvious<br />

injuries to the head, neck, spine, chest and abdomen and<br />

limbs.<br />

Assess the need and provision of emergency trauma care<br />

including First Aid. Examples of this include initial<br />

assessment and management of:<br />

o Bleeding (external or internal);<br />

o Unconscious person;<br />

o Simple wounds and dressings;<br />

o Immobilization of injured parts;<br />

o Choking;<br />

o Convulsions;<br />

o Burns and scalds;<br />
