Our School and Community
Opportunity
Positions of responsibility
Having your voice heard
We are a very happy school
People knowing your name and who you are

Taking control of your own learning
The prominence of student voice
encourages students to take control of
their own learning.
We are supported by the most expert
teachers, but they can’t learn for you.
Learning conversations

The Learning Council
Forum of debate and shares good
practice
Grown in size and has wide
representation
High profile in and out of School

Continual Improvement
The Learning Council has been instrumental in
the introduction of the following:
Double lessons
Re-modelled reports as a result of market
research with parents
A revised marking framework
An evaluation of the effectiveness of
homework

Student Voice
Every student is given the opportunity to have a
say in their learning.
At this school, you don’t have to wait to be a
senior student to make a difference: many
students have been members of Learning
Council since year 9.
So, in short, what’s so great about this school is
the fact that every voice is heard and every
student can make difference.

Popularity
Naturally many students and parents
want the education we offer
The LA is the admitting authority ..there are
330 places in Year 9 from September 2010
..successful appeals have resulted in 330+ in the
past
Also possible to join us in the Sixth Form ..no
one, with the necessary qualifications, has failed
to achieve a place in the Sixth Form

Finally
Thank you for coming to South
this evening …please enjoy the
rest of the evening and do talk to
my colleagues or myself if you have
any queries
