at least £962 million into the economy <strong>of</strong> East<br />

<strong>Devon</strong>, Exeter, Mid <strong>Devon</strong> and Teignbridge.<br />

The <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> Tourism Partnership brings<br />

together the public and private sector in the<br />

local authority areas <strong>of</strong> Exeter, Mid <strong>Devon</strong>, East<br />

<strong>Devon</strong> and parts <strong>of</strong> Teignbridge. The key local<br />

organisations are Exeter & the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong><br />

Hotels & Restaurants Association, Blackdown<br />

Hills Business Association, East <strong>Devon</strong> AONB,<br />

Sidmouth & District Hospitality Association,<br />

Tiverton Canal Company, Tourist Information<br />

Centres, University <strong>of</strong> Exeter, Woodbury Park<br />

Hotel and Exeter City Council.<br />

The objective <strong>of</strong> the Tourism Partnership is to<br />

increase the local tourism economy and in<br />

so doing, boost trade to your establishment.<br />

<strong>2012</strong> marketing activities<br />

During 2010 the Tourism Partnership<br />

undertook extensive research on our<br />

customer database (over 90,000 contacts)<br />

to find out why visitors holiday in the<br />

area. From the results <strong>of</strong> the research we<br />

will be launching 4 marketing campaigns<br />

for <strong>2012</strong> promoting the area under:<br />

• Food & drink<br />

• Family holidays<br />

• Shopping<br />

• Let me tell you a secret<br />

Activity will include:<br />

<strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong><br />

The <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> will feature the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Devon</strong> brand, the main towns and villages within<br />

the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> and will link back to the<br />

above themes. The <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> will be A5 in<br />

size with 80,000 copies printed in November<br />

2011, ready for the busy Christmas market.<br />

The <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> will be made available for<br />

Tourist Information Centres nationwide to order<br />

to display in their premises. The <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong><br />

will be available as a digital download from<br />

www.heart<strong>of</strong>devon.com. Members will have<br />

the opportunity to purchase advertising within<br />

the <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> at a reduced rate.<br />

National advertising campaign<br />

An extensive national advertising campaign<br />

will be implemented to promote the area to<br />

potential new and repeat visitors. The aim will<br />

be to distribute the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong><br />

direct to customers and collect contact and<br />

email addresses.<br />

E-newsletter<br />

A bi-monthly e-newsletter will be sent to our<br />

database <strong>of</strong> 44,000 contacts promoting the area,<br />

members, the above themed campaigns and a<br />

link to order the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong>.<br />

Direct mail flyer<br />

A small flyer will be produced to promote food<br />

& drink, family holidays and shopping breaks.<br />

This will be sent to our existing customer<br />

database and to bought in data (our target<br />

audience) encouraging people to visit the area<br />

for a short break and, or, longer holiday.<br />

Press releases<br />

A press release will be sent to targeted regional<br />

and national travel journalists every month to<br />

highlight themed campaigns, new developments,<br />

events, members and activities. Members have<br />

the opportunity to be included free <strong>of</strong> charge.<br />

Journalist visits<br />

Prior to the launch <strong>of</strong> the themed campaigns<br />

and the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong>, regional<br />

and national journalists will be invited to visit<br />

the area to experience what the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong><br />

and its members have to <strong>of</strong>fer.<br />

<strong>2012</strong> marketing activities continued<br />

Banner advertising<br />

To promote the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong>,<br />

members and themed campaigns, banner<br />

advertising will be placed on relevant<br />

websites, with all links directed back to<br />

www.heart<strong>of</strong>devon.com to help drive traffic<br />

to the website, increase awareness <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> and to increase the distribution<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> <strong>Visitor</strong> <strong>Guide</strong>.<br />

Search engine optimisation<br />

A local company, Clockwork Marketing,<br />

undertake search engine optimisation on our<br />

behalf to ensure that www.heart<strong>of</strong>devon.com<br />

is ranked high within search engines such as<br />

Google, Bing and Yahoo. Work is also undertaken<br />

on developing in-pointing links to improve our<br />

position on the above search engines.<br />

<strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> launched its newly designed<br />

website in summer 2011 to provide greater<br />

exposure for members. The website was<br />

specifically designed to be search engine<br />

friendly; traffic has increased by approx 15%<br />

since its re-launch, which is very encouraging.<br />

The new website will be continuously improved<br />

and added to throughout the year.<br />

awareness <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong>, its members<br />

and www.heart<strong>of</strong>devon.com. <strong>Visitor</strong>s to the<br />

area will be encouraged to add content, images<br />

and videos to the above social media websites.<br />

A new conference website is currently being<br />

worked on and will be launched nationally<br />

alongside to promote the website, conference<br />

members and the destination.<br />

The <strong>2012</strong>-14 <strong>Heart</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Devon</strong> Group Organisers<br />

<strong>Guide</strong> will be launched early <strong>2012</strong> and will<br />

include group related members, events and<br />

destinations. The Group Organisers <strong>Guide</strong> will<br />

be sent direct to our database <strong>of</strong> over 2,500<br />

group organisers. Throughout the year press<br />

releases and e-newsletters are issued to<br />

showcase members, events and new<br />

developments – related to the group market.<br />

Entries will be laid out in the following<br />

Pro<strong>of</strong>s<br />

You will be sent a pro<strong>of</strong> for approval. This needs<br />

to be returned by the date shown on the pro<strong>of</strong><br />

form. It is essential that you check the pro<strong>of</strong><br />

carefully. The Tourism Partnership will not be<br />

liable for any errors not marked on the pro<strong>of</strong>.<br />

Telephone corrections will not be accepted.<br />

Conditions <strong>of</strong> acceptance <strong>of</strong><br />

advertisements and entries<br />

• It is the advertiser’s responsibility to ensure<br />

their advertisement is correct. If you have not<br />

received a pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> your advertisement you<br />

should telephone the Tourism Partnership on<br />

01392 265209.<br />

• Designer’s errors will be corrected free <strong>of</strong> charge.<br />

• No liability whatsoever can be accepted by the<br />

publisher for any error in any advertisement or<br />

entry including accidental or otherwise if an<br />

advertisement is omitted from publication, or<br />

appears incorrectly, the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the<br />

publisher shall not exceed a refund for the cost<br />

<strong>of</strong> an advertisement.<br />

• The publisher reserves the right to decide the<br />

position <strong>of</strong> any advertisements and no special<br />

positions are guaranteed.<br />

• The publisher reserves the right to edit<br />

entries as necessary.<br />

• The advertisers shall be responsible for and<br />

shall indemnify the publishers and their agents<br />

against all losses, damages, costs and expenses<br />

by reason and/or on account <strong>of</strong> any libel or<br />

infringement <strong>of</strong> copyright due to any copy and/<br />

or photographs supplied by the advertiser, which<br />

• The publisher reserves the right to refuse to<br />

accept any application for space or any<br />

the event <strong>of</strong> such a refusal and where payment<br />

has been made a full refund will be made.<br />

• Should the advertiser wish to withdraw their<br />

advertisements at any time after the specified<br />

closing date, then the publishers will endeavour<br />

to accommodate this request, but cannot<br />

guarantee removal. In this instance, the<br />

publishers will have no liability to refund<br />

the advertisement charge.<br />

• All advertisements published in the <strong>Visitor</strong><br />

<strong>Guide</strong> are carried on the assumption that they<br />

comply with the provision <strong>of</strong> the various Trade<br />

Descriptions Acts in force. The right to refuse<br />

for publication is therefore reserved by the<br />

publishers if they have reason to suspect that<br />

Descriptions Acts. It is therefore in your interest<br />

to ensure that you only quote prices which you<br />
