servus Credit Union is celebrating the
opening of a third Lethbridge branch last week
with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by
the Mayor of Lethbridge and by other government
and civic leaders.
“We want people to know that banking at
Servus is different than other financial institutions,”
explained Bret Wolfer, manager at the
new Uplands branch. “Our members are owners
and they get to share in our profits. Servus
employees are owners also. They treat members
like family, providing personalized service and
sensible financial advice.”
Branch employees decided to share that financial
expertise in an entertaining way. The
part of the “fortune teller” was played by Debra
Brown, Manager of the West Lethbridge branch.
On Saturday, she talked with guests about their
financial future. With 20 years of experience in
the industry, “Debra enjoys helping people plan
for a successful financial future,” Wolfer said.
The Uplands branch officially opened on
May 13 with Lethbridge Mayor Bob Tarleck using
a giant pair of scissors for a ribbon-cutting
ceremony.
Garth Warner, Servus CEO, presented a
$30,000 donation to the Lethbridge Public Library.
Todd Gnissios, CEO of the library accepted
the oversized cheque with Caryl Nelson-Fitzpatrick,
Library Board Chair. “We’re

she said. “This capital campaign would
not have been possible without their contributions,”

culture and community,” Gnissios said, in
thanking Servus “for being part of our capital
program.

Lethbridge and Uplands Servus Credit Union
branches can select a book to be donated in
their own name for the library’s children’s collection.
Gnissios said he is “looking forward to
the children making the donations returning
to the library to find their own selection.
Since opening their first Lethbridge branch
in 2004, the credit union has supported many
organizations such as the Lethbridge Soccer
Centre, Big Brothers & Sisters, the St. Michael’s
Health Centre and a number of local
sports and youth groups.
Eric Dillon, chief operating officer for Servus,
said that “last year Servus donated 40 per
cent of its pre-tax earnings back to members
and to the community, which totaled $42 million
in profit-sharing and charitable donations.”
“This one thing makes Servus different—our
investment in the communities we serve,” Warner
said, adding that “we want to help make our
communities great places to live, work and raise
our families.”
Saturday’s grand opening celebration ran
from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, with games, prizes
and a free barbeque. Some guests won cash in a
putting contest, among other prizes given.
The Uplands branch is located at the corner of
26 Ave. and 28 Street N. The branch is open six
days a week and has a 24 hr. drive through ATM.
Hours of operation are: Monday–Wednesday
9:30–5; Thursday & Friday 9:30–8 and
