Dear Campers,
We would like to welcome you to Camp VBS 2013!
We are pleased to offer a variety of day camps for children of all ages. Our camps include Camp Shelanu for pre-schoolers
2 1/2 -5 years, Camp Kef for kids entering grades K-6, a CIT Leadership & Social Action Program for youth entering grades
7-9, and Junior Counselor opportunities for teens entering grades 10-12. Join us and experience fun-filled activities,
friendships, and community. This will be a summer to remember.
Enclosed please find information about each camp along with a registration form. Be sure to register and pay your fees
before Monday, April 15th to take advantage of our Early Bird pricing.

Welcome to a fun-filled summer at Camp Shelanu! Our camp is an exciting, enriching
experience, designed for preschoolers. All our activities are created exclusively for
2 1/2 -5 year old campers in a safe, supervised atmosphere. Camp Shelanu is staffed with
credentialed Early Childhood professionals.
CAMP ACTIVITIES
• Art Studio - A hands-on oriented art experience promoting individual creativity
• Shira (Music) - Camp wide sing-a-long filled with fun, laughter and Ruach!! (spirit)
• Sports - Campers will participate in daily sports activities
• Water Play - Splashing, refreshing fun all day long
• Gymnastics/Yoga - A professional gymnast engages campers in energetic body movement
• Weekly Thematic Activities - Community specialists will be brought in to enrich the camp experience

Camp Kef Grades K-6
Camp Kef, which means “fun” in Hebrew, is a variety Day Camp that will provide an array of activities and experiences
led by our dynamic counselors. From an on-site swimming pool, rock climbing walls, slippery slides to storytellers and
performers, each week there will be a variety of special activities at Camp VBS, including a Super Shabbat Celebration.
Activities include:
• Swimming in our on-site pool • Cooking • Arts and Crafts
• Sports in our gym and grassy field • Music • Maccabiah Games/Color War
• Weekly Field Trips (Thursdays)
• Special Programs and guests
On-Site Swimming Pool • Indoor Gym • FIELD - Grades K--6
Group lessons and free swim during camp hours! Campers will swim in our full size pool, supervised by certified WSI
lifeguards and instructors. Campers will also enjoy a summer of fun playing basketball, volleyball, and sports galore in
our indoor sports facility, The Shalom Dome and an outdoor field.

CIT Leadership and Social Action Program - Grades 7--9 )
The Camp VBS CIT Leadership program is designed to foster leadership for youth entering grades 7-9. Counselors-in-
Training will participate in leadership training and gain hands-on experience assisting Camp Kef campers. As a part of the
leadership training, CIT’s will actively participate in a weekly social action project. CIT’s will leave camp once a week to
volunteer at various organizations around the greater Los Angeles Area and will help implement social action programs for
the campers. CIT’s will help run our weekly Maccabiah/Color War games every Friday. CIT’s will also receive community
service hours. CIT applications must be received by May 6, 2013. The fee for participating in the CIT program is $200/
week. CIT applications are available to download at www.vbsds.org/campvbs. All applicants will be contacted for an

Junior Counselors
Junior Counselor opportunities are available for students entering grades 10-12. Junior Counselors will receive
community service credit and as well as a stipend. To apply for a Junior Counselor position, please contact Rabbi Avi
(ataff@vbsds.org) by April 19, 2013.
Camp VBS Early Bird and Refund Policies:
All fees must be paid in full by April 15, 2013, in order to receive early bird pricing.
No refunds will be issued after June 17, 2013.
