Thomas Edgar<br />

Tom Edgar began playing volleyball at the age of eight,<br />

and made his international debut for Australia in 2008. He<br />

had surgery on a broken finger in 2009, the same year he<br />

was part of the national team that finished seventh at the<br />

Asian Championship. He went to compete at another two<br />

editions of the continental championship, finishing fourth<br />

in 2011 and fifth in 2013. On the world stage he finished<br />

19th at the 2010 World Championship, ninth at the 2012<br />

Olympic Games and ninth at the 2014 World League.<br />

Aiden Zingel<br />

Aiden Zingel started playing volleyball at the age of 14<br />

at Kiama High School in New South Wales, Australia. His<br />

sports teacher sent him for a trial with the New South<br />

Wales U15 volleyball team, and within 12 months of he<br />

was in the Australian Institute of the Sport programme.<br />

Nicknamed Boxy, the opposite hitter says his sporting idol<br />

is Serbian volleyball player Ivan Miljkovic. The sport runs<br />

in his family as his second cousin is Daniel Rohan, who<br />

was selected for the Australia team for the 2000 Olympic<br />

Games in Sydney. Edgar’s ambition is to return to the<br />

Olympic stage and compete at the 2016 Olympic Games<br />

in Rio de Janeiro.<br />

He made his international debut for Australia against<br />

Slovakia in 2009 and represented his country at the 2009<br />

Asian Championship in Manila, Philippines, finishing<br />

seventh. He was a member of the team that finished fourth<br />

at the 2011 Asian Championship in Tehran, Iran, and<br />

represented his country at the 2013 Asian Championship<br />

in Dubai, UAE, where they finished fifth.<br />

At club level he has played for teams in Australia, Sweden,<br />

Poland, Italy and South Korea. Away from the sport he<br />

studied Business at the University of Southern Queensland.<br />

He played with Australia at the 2012 Olympic Games in<br />

London, and at the 2010 World Championship in Italy.<br />

Zingel won the 2011 Australian Player of the Year award<br />

and was named captain of the Australia team in 2013.<br />
