Hadhrat Hasan narrates that a man approached Hadhrat Umar = saying, "0<br />

Ameerul Mu'mineen! 1 am a man from the countryside and have many duties to<br />

tend to. Do advise me to do something that I can trust in to convey me (to<br />

Jannah)." Hadhrat Umar -j said to him, "Give me your hand and'understand<br />

me well." When the man gave him his hand, Hadhrat Umar ?BZ&!&j said, "You<br />

should worship Allaah without ascribing partners to him, establish salaah, pay<br />

the obligatory zakaah, perform Hajj, perform Umrah and obey (your leaders). You<br />

should also look only at the apparent actions of people and beware not to probe<br />

their private lives. Do<br />

every such deed that will not embarrass you when the news<br />

~f it spreads amongst people and stay away from every such act that will be a<br />

cause of embarrassment and disgrace when the news reaches others."<br />

"0 Arneerul Mu'mineen!" the man said, "1 shall practise on this advice and when I<br />

meet my Rabb, I shall say, 'It was Umar bin Khattaab who told me to do this."' To<br />

this, Hadhrat Umar remarked, "Hold fast to this and when you meet your<br />

Rabb, you may tell Him whatever you like."<br />

to Perform Salaah<br />

Hadhrat Abu Maalik Ashja'ee reports from his father Q= that salaah was<br />

the first thing Rasulullaah E$@ taught anyone who accepted Islaam. (2)<br />

Hadhrat Hakam bin Umayr ?BX&6 reports that Rasulullaah @@! taught them<br />

thus: "When you stand up for salaah, say 'Allaahu Akbar' and raise your hands<br />

without passing your ears. Then recite:<br />

'You are Pure, 0 Allaah and we praise You, Blessed is Your name, Lofty<br />

is Your honour and there is none worthy of worship but<br />

Hadhrat Umar BEWj and Hadhrat Abdullaah bin<br />

Mas'ood WEWj Teach the Tashahhud<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar says, "Hadhrat Abu Bakr W%!25 used to<br />

teach us the Tashahhud from the pulpit just as little children are taught at<br />

school." (4)<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas k-3 says(5), "Hadhrat Umar bin Khattaab<br />

once took hold of my hand and taught me the Tashahhud, informing me<br />

that Rasulullaah @% has also taken him by the hand and taught him the<br />

Tashahhud, which is:<br />

(I) Ibn Asaakir, as quoted in KanzuIUmmaal(Vo1.8 Pg.208).<br />

(2) Tabraani and Bazzaar, reporting from reliable sources as confirmed by Haythami (Vol. 1 Pg.293).<br />

(3) Abu Nu'ayrn, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal(Vo1.4 Pg.203).<br />

(4) Musaddad and Tahaawi, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal(Vol.4 Pg.217).<br />
