Retirements Denney was promoted to sergeant and assigned to Troop A, Zone 12, Johnson County. In 1999, he was assigned to the Gaming Division; and in 2001, Denney returned to Troop A, Zone 12, Johnson County. It is from that position that he retires. Over the years, he has taken part in a number of special assignments: security details for Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush; Missouri governor’s inauguration detail; Pope Paul security detail in St. Louis, MO; security detail for the Soviet Union’s (former) Premier Mikhail Gorbachev; security detail for U.S. Secretary of Navy Donald C. Winter; several state fairs; and various flood and tornado security details. He has collected a lot of memories over his 29 years. “Having my father, Sgt. L.D. Jefferson Sr., present me with my commission at graduation,” ranked top of the list. Denney said receiving his dad’s badge and equipment upon his dad’s retirement; numerous Rural Major Case Squad investigations; participating in the Police Olympics in St. Louis and Kansas City; working with the ATF, DEA, U.S. Secret Service, and Soviet Union’s KGB Protection Service; gaming agent training in Las Vegas, NV; and numerous, notable manhunts and car chases also come to mind. Denney has been recognized over the years by the Knob Noster, MO, Jaycees (law enforcement officer of the year twice); the Sedalia, MO, Rotary (<strong>Highway</strong> <strong>Patrol</strong> trooper of the year twice); and MOSTA member of the year. When he isn’t working, Denney is quite active in his community. He serves as committee chairman for Boy Scout Troop 513, in Warrensburg, MO; risk management chairman for BSA’s Lone Bear District; and is a past member of the St. Joseph, MO, Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #3; Warrensburg, MO, Early Morning Optimist Club, and the American Legion. Denney is married to Bobbie J. (Emerson), and they have two chil- dren: Chelsea E. (Jefferson) Edwards and Brian C. Jefferson. Congratulations to the Jefferson family! May your retirement be long and healthy! CVO II David W. Headrick On August 1, 2009, after more than 15 years of dedicated service, Commercial Vehicle Officer II David W. Headrick retired as an employee of the Missouri <strong>State</strong> <strong>Highway</strong> <strong>Patrol</strong>. Originally from Carthage, MO, David graduated from Carthage High School in 1965. He served with the United <strong>State</strong>s Marine Corps from 1965 until 1967, attaining the rank of corporal (E-4). While with the Marine Corps, David was a hospital corpsman assigned to stateside locations in Virginia and New York, as well as an overseas assignment in Spain. Prior to his appointment to the <strong>Patrol</strong>, he was employed as a police officer with the New Orleans, LA, Police Department; the Carthage, MO, Police Department; and the Joplin, MO, Police Department. His public service with the various departments has spanned over 40 years. David began his career with the <strong>Patrol</strong> in November 1993, and was assigned to the scale house along Interstate 44, near Joplin. In September 1998, he was promoted to Commercial Vehicle Officer II and remained at his original assignment at the scale house until his retirement. An avid horseman, David plans on enjoying his retirement with time spent horseback riding, as well as fishing and hunting. He will also stay busy as a member of the Masonic Lodge, Alba, MO; Shrine Club, Springfield, MO; and Elks Lodge 861, Webb City, MO. The employees in Troop D wish David a healthy and happy retirement.
