Late Work Procedure
Late work definition = Late work is
defined as an assignment that a
student has submitted late (past the
deadline assigned by the teacher), not
an assignment that has been done to
make-up work accrued during
absences. Class work may not be
turned in for late work credit.
Consult page 7 in the
student handbook

How the Late Work Procedure Works
• Students may turn in work late, with a penalty of 8 points off for
each day past the assignment’s original due date. The most points
you can lose for late work is 40 points.
• Your teachers may ask you to resubmit late work if they feel that
you have not completed the work to their expectation.
• Late work must be submitted by the final deadlines given below.
If you do not submit late work by the specified date, it will be
given a zero.
FALL SEMESTER 2013 SPRING SEMESTER 2014
September 25 February 4
October 23 March 26
December 3 May 7
January 16 June 10

Your teacher
may ask you
to complete a
form like this
one when
turning in late
work, so he or
she knows
how much
credit to
award you.

63 Contract
If a student receives lower than a 63 average for
any class for the first quarter of either semester,
he/she will enter into a 63 Grading Contract with
his/her teacher.
Teachers will conference with a student before
entering into a 63 Contract with a student.
63 Contracts will be mailed home.
Consult page 7 in the
student handbook

63 Contract
• The contract will outline steps the student must take
to bring his/her grade up to at least a 70 for 2 nd or 4 th
quarter.
• Once a student meets the requirements of the
contract, the teacher will change the student’s 1 st
quarter grade to a 63.
• The 63 contract provides you with a mathematical
chance of passing for the semester (provided you
pass the final exam).
Consult page 7 in the
student handbook

Your teacher
may use a
form like this
one to outline
the steps you
must take to
meet
requirements
of the contract
in order to
bring your
second quarter
grade up to at
least a 70.

Cheating
Consult page 8 in the
student handbook
Defined as receiving or giving unauthorized
assistance on academic work that may be used
as a graded assessment for any particular
course/subject.
Potential examples:
• Copying answers from another student's quiz/test
• Providing or using unauthorized notes, data, or other aids,
such as dictionaries, calculators, cell phones, or other
electronic devices, during quizzes or tests
• Copying another student's homework/project, either in
part or its entirety

Plagiarizing
Defined as copying the language, structure or ideas
of another and representing it as one’s own work.
Potential examples:
• Copying material directly from published material or a website
without providing documentation and a bibliography
• Turning in an assignment or project as your work when it was
written in part or entirety by someone else
• Making up sources or including sources not consulted in works
cited page.
• Altering, restating, or paraphrasing another person's words,
ideas, or work without giving credit or acknowledging your
sources.

69 Rule
Academic Integrity Policy
Continuing the 2013-2014 school year,
any student caught cheating on any
assignment will be assigned alternate
assignment of the teacher’s discretion,
with the highest possible grade being a
69. Additionally, the appropriate
administrative consequence will be
issued to the student.
Consult page 8 in the
student handbook

Academic Eligibility Requirements
for Athletes
Consult page 9 in the
student handbook
A student must pass three (3) subjects the
previous semester and six subjects for the year to
be eligible for participation in athletics. The state
guidelines for a minimum of 85% attendance in
the previous semester must also be met. Time
cannot be made up in Saturday School to meet
this requirement. (Lenoir County Public Schools
allows students to only miss six days of class in
order to receive credit for the course.)This equates
to 76.5 days out of 90 days in each semester.

Driver Eligibility Requirements
• All students must pass a minimum of three out of
four subjects each semester to continue to drive.
• Reinstatement of a student’s driver’s license or permit
will take a minimum of one semester, unless a student
can show evidence of a hardship as defined by the
guidelines provided to the student when the incident
occurs.
• Final grades at semester’s end must equate to three
out of four passing grades in order for a student to
have his/her license or permit reinstated.
Consult page 41 in the
student handbook

• Some exams will be teacher-made exams, and others will be
state tests.
• Final exams count as 25% of a student’s final grade in EOC
courses (biology, English II, IM I)
1 st Q: 37.5% 2 nd Q: 37.5% EOC: 25%
• Final exams count as 20% of a student’s final grade in all other
• Fall Semester: Jan. 13-16, with make-up testing
conducted on January 17.
• Spring Semester: June 5-10, with make-up
testing conducted on June 11.
• All exams will be given in the morning, with
Any senior that meets the following guidelines will be
• An “A” class average and 3 or less excused absences
• A “B” class average and 2 or less excused absences
• A “C” class average and 1 or less excused absences
If a senior has even one unexcused absence in a class, they
will not qualify for exam exemption under this new policy.
Absences are based on individual classes for qualification.
If you have more absences than allowed, you will not be
able to make up those absences to qualify.

• If a student fails a course with a final average
between a 60 and a 69, he or she may be
eligible for Credit Recovery the following
semester.
• If a student fails a course that is a prerequisite
for a subsequent course, if space allows, the
student will be registered to repeat the
ENTIRE course before Credit Recovery is an
option.
Consult page 16 in the
student handbook

• The student will then be enrolled after school in Nova Net or Plato
to class each time you are tardy.

• Students who need to leave school during the day
should bring a written note from a parent/guardian
to four lunches
2. The A-J/K-Z cafeteria split
• Go to the cafeteria according to you last name!
• Overcrowding the cafeteria will shut VIKES down quicker
than anything.
3. Trash
• Pick up your trash no matter where you eat lunch!
• VIKES Lunch should not mean more work for the KHS
custodial staff!
• If trash becomes a problem, we will go back to four lunches.

• Beginning 2013-2014, there will not
be Saturday School to make up
absences.
• Per LCPS policy, you are only permitted to have
10 absences per semester. Should you exceed 10
absences in a semester, you must submit a waiver
to the waiver committee for consideration.

• Having more than 10 absences in a semester could
result in no credit for a course.
• Absences cannot be waived to meet athletic
eligibility requirements.
• Having an excused absence does NOT mean that
the absence is automatically erased. Having an
excused absence allows the student to apply for a
waiver if the student has more than 10 absences.
