European Scientific Working group on Influenza
Influenza lays a heavy burden on public health in Europe as it
claims more lives than traffic accidents, especially among the
elderly and patients with chronic disease like asthma, COPD,
diabetes, heart disease…
The European Scientific Working group on
Influenza (ESWI) calls upon everyone who is
concerned with lowering this social burden
by organizing its second ESWI Flu Summit in
Brussels, Belgium.
Building on the experience of last year’s
Summit, the second ESWI Flu Summit will
showcase successful projects that raised
patients’ awareness and improved their
protection against influenza. Different
parties will approach the influenza issue
from their specific perspectives and
public health authorities will report on the
influenza challenges that lie ahead. ESWI
is particularly honoured to announce the
active participation of WHO Europe and the
EC Directorate-General for Health and Consumers (DG-SANCO). At the same time,
the Summit will provide an informal platform to discuss ways to expand efforts, to
exchange good practices and to initiate concrete actions. Participants will include
healthcare professionals, organizations of at-risk patients and senior citizens, and
scientific researchers.
The wide range of influenza topics and the selection of expert speakers make an
interesting and attractive programme for anyone with an interest in addressing
and resolving influenza issues. It would hence be a pleasure having you and your
colleagues with us during this event.
