32nd EMMY AWARDS
A Night to
Remember by All!
On Saturday, June 3rd over 400 people attended the
32nd Annual Pacific Southwest Regional Emmys. Held
again at The Omni Hotel San Diego, the cocktail reception
began at 5:30pm. Nominees and guests were treated to
Hors d’ oeuvres from the Oceanaire Seafood Room while
they mingled.
Guests were seated for dinner at 6:30pm and the
program began around 7:25pm. 217 Emmys were
awarded in 169 categories and sub-categories.
This was the first year for many of these categories and
sub-categories. Most recipients kept their comments to 30
seconds helping the program move quickly. The program
ended shortly after 10pm.
The category with the most recipients was Promotions.
In the Designated Newsday category the Emmys went to:
KESQ (Southwest), KLAS (Las Vegas) and
Fox 6 (San Diego).

The 32nd Annual Emmy Awards are behind us now, and so too
comes the end of the current administration in the Pacific Southwest
Chapter, and the beginning of our next administration. Four short
years ago, I was elected to serve as your President and it is a job I am
sad to leave but proud to have held. We have accomplished quite a
bit, and for that I thank my fellow Governors and you the members.
A few of the more notable milestones along the way include passing
the $200,000 mark in scholarship donations. The generosity of our
members has benefited many young students over the years, and
this is a tradition we’ve continued to invest in. We’ve supported the
“Day in the Newsroom” and “Red Eye” local student educational
events, while numerous Chapter high schools have been recognized
in the National Student Television Awards. Our Silver Circle has
continued to grow and add new inductees, and begat the first ever
Gold Circle, while expanding into more cities within our Chapter
and I hope to all our cities shortly. We’ve actively recruited governors
from every region to our Board, made deep connections to the many
Spanish language outlets around the Chapter, and visited almost
every city to meet with members. Our Chapter website has been
enhanced, we’ve been strong “Job Bank” supporters and we’ve
added the “Emmy E-News” electronic newsletter to better
communicate with our members. New categories of Emmy have
been introduced and member participation in Emmy is at record
highs. Finally, up-to-date professional accounting and business
practices have been implemented behind the scenes, ensuring
quality service to members as well as fiscal discipline and strength.
I am very pleased to say our Chapter is quite sound and poised to
continue to serve our members well.
And you the members, as always, are our future. Your Board of
Governors is made up of members from all over the Chapter. I joined
the Board in 1997 and will continue to serve beyond my current
presidency. I look forward to more members joining our Board and
to helping with the business of our Chapter. The Emmy remains
television’s most prestigious award, and our members keep the spirit
of excellence alive each day.
I am pleased to have served the members, proud to be among our
accomplished alumni of “past-presidents” and I look forward to all
that our next administration will accomplish.

Scholarships put Chapter over $200,000 mark
At this year’s Emmys, the Chapter awarded four scholarships
totaling $9,000 to local students, as well as our
second Annual Pacific Southwest Chapter Grant to Education
of $2,000 and Avid software. This year’s scholarships
put us over the $200,000 dollar mark in money
granted to students and institutions by the Chapter
and its members.
Pacific Southwest Chapter Member Scholarships went
to two seniors at Carlsbad High School. Adam Bollinger
was awarded $1,500 and Alex Loucas was awarded
$2,000. Adam and Alex were attending Prom, so fellow
Carlsbad student Bobby Kloetzer accepted on their behalf.
Both students will be attending Chapman University
in the Fall as film and TV majors.
Doug Green and Bobby Kloetzer from Carlsbad High School. Bobby accepted the
scholarships on behalf of Adam and Alex.
Sofia Salgado, KSWB’s Community Affairs Manager, presented
the KSWB/Pacific Southwest Chapter Scholarship
of $2,500 to Destin Cretton. Robert Moutal, General
Manager of XHAS presented the KBNT/XHAS/Pacific
Southwest Chapter Scholarship to Rosie Fu. Rosie received
a Student Emmy last year and is continuing her
graduate studies at San Diego State University.
The Second Annual Pacific Southwest Grant to Education
sponsored by the Chapter and David Branfman, Ira
Opper and Fred Ashman was awarded to Grossmont
High School. Grossmont is opening a new student media
center in the fall. The Grant to Education included
Avid News Cutter software as well as $2,000.
2006-2007 Board of Governors Elected
Please welcome the new members of the Board of Governors. They were elected earlier this spring.
In the category of Commercial Television the elected members are: MaryEllen Eagelston from
NBC 7/39 and Tom Zizzi from KUSI. In the category of Independent Producers, Advertising and
Public Relations the members are: Al Delino of Al Delino Art Direction & Design Consultants and
Jeanne Scott of American Dream Cinema. Kim Sherwood of Clark County TV will represent the
category of Performers and their Representatives. Deborah Clayton of KVBC in Las Vegas and
Steve Taylor of KERO in Bakersfield will serve as Regional Members. Each Governor is elected to
a term of two years.
