DKSH invests RM 60 million to make Malaysia its global hub
for IT- based services

KUALA LUMPUR, November 22, 2004 – Malaysia’s reputation as a
destination of choice for multinational companies has been reaffirmed with
the official launch of the DKSH Corporate Shared Services Center Sdn Bhd
(CSSC) today.
Based in Technology Park Malaysia, the CSSC, a MSC-status company,
has been established by DKSH Holding Limited of Switzerland (DKSH) to
centralize IT services that will see its global business transactions
amounting to more than RM 17.5 billion annually, being processed out of
Malaysia. This will further enable and support its operations worldwide by
bridging markets within and between Asia Pacific, Europe and the
Americas.
With the CSSC, the Group will utilize its global SAP-based Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) system to serve the needs of its Business Units
that cater to both local and multinational business partners across the
globe. DKSH is the No. 1 services Group in Asia focusing on sourcing,
marketing, logistics, and distribution.
At the launch ceremony, officiated by YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Jamaluddin Dato’
Mohd Jarjis, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia,
DKSH Holding President and CEO Dr Joerg Wolle said: “Our long
established roots in Malaysia spanning over more than a century coupled
with exemplary political stability, availability of highly-skilled multi-lingual IT
talent, superb infrastructure and attractive tax incentives have made us
decide for Malaysia again as the ideal country of choice for the CSSC.“
“If you have annual sales of RM 17.5 billion and more than 18,500
specialists in 35 countries and you decide to centralize your IT and
information processing in one Corporate Share Service Center, it has to be
guaranteed that it’s working perfectly.” According to Wolle, one important
precondition is the choice of the place, Malaysia, where DKSH has created
60 new jobs in IT alone. Another is to sign up the best partners and to
provide the necessary financial resources for state-of-the-art hardware and
software. To date, DKSH has committed capital expenditures in excess of
RM 60 million. “Clearly, this project is a tangible testament to the Group’s
focus in strengthening our century old relationship with Malaysia and taking
it to new levels of success,” adds Wolle.
Also present at the CSSC launch was Gonpo Tsering, Chief Value Officer,
DKSH Holding, who commented on the vital roles played by business
partners directly involved in the CSSC. According to him, the IT systems
and applications provided by IBM, SAP and Infonet Services Corporation
have enabled the CSSC to streamline supply chains, utilize cost-effective
methods, and enhance productivity as well as security features.
CSSC also developed its own business solutions. One such made-in-
Malaysia business solution is the EchoPlus, a palm-held ‘tracking’ system
that allows easy mobile access to customer database, product details, and
sales performance among other information. EchoPlus is already utilized
in eight countries by DKSH. It has also been licensed to several
business partners being leading Fortune 500 companies.
“This is certainly a boost to Malaysia’s capability as a technology solutions
provider. What’s more, both CSSC and DKSH Malaysia have created
employment opportunities already for more than 300 qualified Malaysians
and we expect the numbers to grow,” says Gonpo Tsering.
“DKSH has seen Malaysia grow to become a strong pillar in our marketing
and distribution network, generating annual sales of approximately RM2.7
billion. With the CSSC, we are confident of expanding our business network
and enhancing our services within the Asia Pacific region in the foreseeable
future, says Joerg Wolle.”
