Sept 26 A droll proposal - Buckie Town Council are to investigate the possibility of
converting the Town House hall into a council chamber and committee room
because existing facilities, according to the Burgh Surveyor, John Murray, are
'filthy'. (Surely to clean it up wouldn't have been a mammoth task.)
This was decided on Monday - a full conversion of the hall, including lowering the
ceiling, was estimated to cost around £4,000. Mr Murray also said that the Town
House hall was inadequate from the point of view of dances with the toilet facilities
completely useless. It is accepted that even in 2002 that the toilet provision is still
poor but one is left wondering how everyone managed during the war years, 1939
to 1945 when huge crowds attended the Welfare dances. Thank goodness
common sense prevailed with a nonsensical suggestion being sunk without trace.)
