<strong>Confirmation</strong> Class<br />

2012-2013<br />

~~~ Classes meet on Sunday mornings 8:45-10:00AM. Candidate must complete<br />

a make-up lesson when absent.<br />

~~~ Text/Leaflets used in class Understanding The Catechism: Morality by<br />

Michael Pennock and Receiving the Gift of the Spirit: <strong>Confirmation</strong> by Pflaum<br />

Publishing Group.<br />

~~~ Mass attendance The candidate should be attending mass and approaching<br />

the Eucharist on a regular basis. The <strong>parent</strong>s along with the sponsor should be<br />

encouraging this.<br />

~~~ Reconciliation The candidate is strongly encouraged to celebrate the<br />

Sacrament of Reconciliation before the <strong>Confirmation</strong> ceremony. Opportunities are<br />

available on Saturdays at 4:45-5:15, at the <strong>Confirmation</strong> retreats, and Advent and<br />

Lenten Communal Services to be announced.<br />

~~~ Sponsor The candidate will choose a sponsor. The sponsor should be a<br />

practicing <strong>Catholic</strong> in good standing with the <strong>Catholic</strong> Church and initiated into the<br />

three Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and <strong>Confirmation</strong>. The sponsor should be<br />

willing to be a spiritual companion and attend at least five CCD classes. The<br />

Baptismal God<strong>parent</strong> is preferred. A <strong>parent</strong> cannot be their child’s sponsor. The<br />

sponsor brings the candidate to receive the sacrament, presents the candidate to the<br />

Bishop for anointing, and will later help him/her live the Baptismal promises<br />

faithfully under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Form Due: November 11, 2012<br />

~~~ <strong>Confirmation</strong> Name The candidate will choose a Saint’s name. The name<br />

given at Baptism is the name that is encouraged, but another name may be chosen.


~~~ Community Service The candidate will complete a minimum of 25 hours<br />

of service to others. The hours may be integrated with CCD, school and/or<br />

personal. Form Due: February 24, 2013<br />

~~~ Retreat The candidate will participate in a <strong>Catholic</strong> retreat. SEARCH<br />

retreats are January 11-13 OR February 1-3; CSA <strong>Confirmation</strong> retreat at<br />

<strong>St</strong>.<strong>Thomas</strong> …Feb 23, 2013.<br />

~~~ Letter to Bishop The candidate will write a letter requesting to celebrate<br />

the sacrament and tell why. Due: February 24, 2013<br />

~~~ Rite of Welcome The candidate and sponsor will participate.<br />

December 2 nd at 8:00 Mass.<br />

~~~ Rite of Enrollment The candidate and sponsor will participate.<br />

March 3 rd at 8:00 Mass.<br />

~~~ <strong>Confirmation</strong> Ceremony The <strong>Confirmation</strong> ceremony for the Hattiesburg<br />

community will be held at <strong>St</strong>.<strong>Thomas</strong> in the Spring. Date and Time TBA.<br />

~~~ Practice The date/time for the practice will be announced after a ceremony<br />

date has been assigned.<br />

~~~ Certificates of Baptism and 1 st Eucharist If either or both of these<br />

sacraments were not received in Hattiesburg, I will need to get a copy/or copies<br />

from you.
