Outcomes Conference
April 16-18, 2012
Pharmacy-related waste costs over $408 billion each year. Nonadherence
to medication therapy is the largest component of that waste and the old solutions
aren’t working.
To get different results, it’s necessary to look at problems in a new way.
Join us for the 16th annual Outcomes Conference. You’ll gain actionable
insights and solutions you can put into practice today.

Monday, April 16
Tuesday, April 17
8:30 a.m. – Noon
A “Brave New World” in Healthcare
Steve Miller, MD, MBA
Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer - Express Scripts
Breakthrough drugs and procedures, new imaging technologies, and improved tools for information capture and sharing: all the ingredients for a
bright future of better health and outcomes. Yet for many plan sponsors, this is not the vision they see. For them it’s spiraling costs, complexity and
dissatisfaction. Dr. Miller will provide insights into how we can take the successes experienced in pharmacy costs and care and syndicate them to other
areas within the healthcare system.
Who’s Really at Risk for Nonadherence? How to Know and What to Do
Bob Nease, PhD
Chief Scientist, Research & New Solutions Group - Express Scripts
The simple truth is that Americans’ failure to take their medications as prescribed costs the nation more than $300 billion annually. But solving that
problem is anything but simple. Nonadherence springs from multiple causes that can’t be determined from pharmacy claims data. In fact, the problem
isn’t detected until well after it’s occurred, and different types of interventions are needed. Come learn how reframing the nonadherence problem led to an
innovative, breakthrough solution … and how we are redesigning the patient experience to advantage better adherence.
Struggling Under the Weight … of Our Weight
David Kirchhoff
Chief Executive Officer - Weight Watchers International
The American healthcare system is seriously overburdened by our obesity epidemic. Diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and a number of other chronic
conditions are fueled by high rates of overweight and obesity, creating one of the largest pain points for plan sponsors and patients. But our obesity crisis
isn’t about people eating too much; it’s about our “obesogenic” environment. Join us for an engaging, encouraging discussion of practical steps you can
take to re-engineer this environment to make weight loss happen.
Taking a Page From Other Playbooks: Importing Proven Principles to Transform Healthcare
Larry Zarin
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer - Express Scripts
Do game-changing ideas fall from the sky, or are they more likely to be “riffs” on things we know work in other settings? For the past five years, Express Scripts
has focused on importing powerful, proven principles from other industries: choice architecture from the 401(k) experience, predictive modeling from the
financial services industry, and framed communications from ad agencies and political pundits. The result has been Consumerology’s broad portfolio of unique
offerings. Come hear Larry Zarin talk about our approach … and where we are headed tomorrow.
Change Is on the Horizon
Brian Seiz, PharmD
Vice President, Clinical Services - Express Scripts
With the economy recovering slowly and healthcare reform just around the corner, plan sponsors need to get a handle on the key factors that will impact their
drug spend in the year ahead. In this discussion, we’ll explore three main topics: the increasing need to find better ways to communicate and coordinate care
with physicians; the growing use of specialty medications and the impacts on cost and quality; and how the political landscape is shaping healthcare trends.
