You will receive WEEKLY garbage collection. Consult the maps provided here and on the 

municipal website to determine your collection day. 

Place garbage out for collection, the NtGHT BEFORE, or no later than 6:00 om., on yoor collection day.

Tele visions & Computer Equipment: Are NO longer considered garbage and will NOT be collected 

with regular garbage oollection or with junk collection. These jtems can be dropped off FREE of charge at

NON - Collectable Waste: Waste That is deemed non-collectable includes; COMPUTER EQUIPMENT, 

TELEVISIONS, e){plosives, renovation debris, animal waste, chemical/paint products, medical waste, 

syringes, tires, coocrete, bricks, cement of any kind (including garden ornaments), appliances, & metal 

items. These items are NOT GARBAGE and will NOT be collected - check February for Public Drop Off 

informaTion. 

() RESIDENTIAL JUNK: Residential junk should be placed out with regular garbage only on yoor regular 

garbage collection day. Junk is considered to be oversi"z:e refuse and includes couches, c:hairs, and 

mattresses. It does NOT include any NON-COLlECTABLE waste.

Yard Waste Collection 

URBAN ONLY - Basic Collection Requirements: 

Organic waste is defined as yard waste (grass, leaves, garden trimmings, 

brush & branches, food waste, fruit & vegetable scraps, rinds, peelings, 

cores, husks, coffee grounds, tea bags, and egg shell s) and other 

organics (vacuum cleaner dust, hair, saw dust,and dryer lint). 

Yard Waste collection is EVERY WEEK, April through November. 

Consult the map here and on the municipal website to determine your 

collection day. 

See the map below to check w hat zone you are in. If you have any 

questions regarding your ya rd waste collection p lease call Community 

Services at 519-322-2346. 

There is a FOUR BAG / CONTAINER limit - 20 kg (45 Ibs) per bog.

URBAN ONLY: Yard Waste Collection will be provided from 

April 1st, 2013 to November 29th,2013. Yord Waste should be 

placed out for collection as follows (4 bag limit): 

Tree & Hedge Trimmings: 

Tied in bundles (max. length 4ft./ max. diameter 2 ft.) 

Garden Waste / Leaves: 

Flowers, vegetables, plants, fruit and leaves should be put in 

cardboard boxes, paper yard waste bags, or garbage pails/cans. 

(leaves can be raked to the cu rb). 

Grass Clippings: 

Grass clippings are considered YARD WASTE and will 

only be collected on Yard Waste Days. 

Large Trees & Shrubs:The municipality no longer collects or 

chips residential LARGE trees or shrubs. Regular yard waste 

collection will take branches and brush up to approx. 3 N in 

diameter, if cut and tied into bundles no larger than 4 ft by 2ft, 

and weighing less than 45 Ibs.larger items can be taken to the 

Public Drop Off Depot on Albuna Townline (see February for 

more informat ion on the Public Drop Off Depot). 

No PLASTIC BAGS for yard waste 

(regular OR environmentally friendly).

compost sells out very quickly in the spring! Come pick 

some up while you still can! 

The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste 

Authority's Garden Gold 

compost can be purchased: 

pre-bagged, bag-your-own, bulk 

loads and by delivery. Compost 

can be purchased at both of the 

Public Drop Off Depots - there is 

one in Windsor and one in 

Kingsville 

(see February). 

Prior to being sold to the public, 

our Garden Gold compost must 

meet provincial standards. Our 

compost is also certified by the 

Compost Council of Canada.

HOW TO USE COMPOST 

TOpsoil alone does not contain the organic 

mate rial needed to grow your lawn, pl. nts, 

and vegetable s · compost doe s! 

Benefits: Plants require organic maner to grow. 

While it is not a fertilizer, it does contain a wide 

range of micronutrients.lt can increase the soil's 

ability to retain moisture in sandy soils and may 

provide better infiltration of air and water in clay 

and heavy soils. It may also improve soil structure 

and decrease soil erosion. 

DIRECTIONS: Compost can be used at any time 

spring, su mmer, and fall. 

Flower Beds & Veget.ble G. rdens: Compost 

should be applied to flower beds and vegetable 

gardens a few weeks prior to planting. The 

compost may be hot or warm at the t ime of 

purchase. This means that the material is still in a 

state of decomposition. The material can still be 

dug into garden beds where it will continue to 

decompose. The material can also be stockpiled, 

where it will again continue to breakdown and 

·cool". 

Top Dressing: When using compost as a top 

dressing on lawns or gardens, first make sure that 

the material has "cooled". When applying to the 

lawn, sift the compost through a fine screen 

('I. inch or less).

What's The Difference? 

Backyard Compolter: The Backyard (om poster 

sits 'on top'of the ground. Materials like leaves, 

garden waste, fruit and veggies scraps, tea bags, 

coffee filters,etc., should be placed into the 

Backyard Com poster, the contents should be 

stirred regularly and kept moist. In 

approximately six months to a year, the contents 

will have turned into a beautiful, black soil 

known as compost.Compost can be used in your 

flower and vegetable gardens, house plants and 

on your lawn.Meat,dairy, bones, and oils should 

NOT be placed in the Backyard (omposter. 

The Green Cone Dlgest. r: 

The Green Cone Digester has a 

basket which is 'buried' in the 

ground. Materials like meat,
