<strong>Conference</strong> Theme:
NEXT GENERATION MOBILITY
The smartphone is rapidly becom<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> universal convergence device, br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r a voice
cellphone, a notebook computer, a tablet, a portable music player, an electronic book, a navigation
device, a broadcast radio receiver, a broadcast TV receiver, a personal <strong>in</strong>formation manager, a
video game, a platform for buy<strong>in</strong>g apps and contents, a medical monitor<strong>in</strong>g and diagnostic tool
and a personal safety device. The 1st generation of <strong>the</strong>se applications is here but <strong>the</strong>y are all
flawed or compromised due to some comb<strong>in</strong>ation of technology limitations, lack of mature bus<strong>in</strong>ess
models, immature standards, not fully built out <strong>in</strong>frastructure and <strong>in</strong>novations yet to come.
To facilitate <strong>the</strong> evolution to <strong>the</strong> next generation of mobility, <strong>the</strong> Consumer Electronic devices need
to address multiple challenges: overcom<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> technology limitations (<strong>in</strong>adequate battery life,
poor voice recognition performance, display quality, limited wireless bandwidth, privacy and security),
develop<strong>in</strong>g new applications and peripherals, and imag<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g new ways to use comb<strong>in</strong>ations of
exist<strong>in</strong>g mature technologies to create <strong>in</strong>novative system concepts.
The <strong>International</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> on Consumer Electronics (ICCE) is solicit<strong>in</strong>g technical papers for
tutorial, oral and poster presentation. Papers report<strong>in</strong>g new developments <strong>in</strong> all areas of consumer
electronics are <strong>in</strong>vited, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g but not limited to those listed below. This year, papers
relat<strong>in</strong>g to Next Generation Mobility foundation technologies, devices, and applications are particularly
welcome. Topics around this major <strong>the</strong>me will be <strong>the</strong> content of special sessions and tutorials.
Awards will be given to <strong>the</strong> best papers presented dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> conference.

Authors are <strong>in</strong>vited to submit ei<strong>the</strong>r a 2-page summary or a 4-page extended
abstract. All papers must be compliant with IEEE format specifications and authors
should follow <strong>the</strong> posted submission guidel<strong>in</strong>es. Only electronics submissions will be
accepted via <strong>the</strong> web at http://www.icce.org.
Only <strong>the</strong> authors of 2-pages summaries are <strong>in</strong>vited to send an extended paper
with new contributions to <strong>the</strong> April volume of <strong>the</strong> IEEE Transactions on Consumer
Electronics (TCE). The deadl<strong>in</strong>e for <strong>the</strong> publication and <strong>the</strong> template can be found at
http://www.ewh.ieee.org/soc/ces/publications_trans_ce.htm. The submitted papers
to <strong>the</strong> TCE must identify clearly <strong>the</strong> new contribution regard<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> summary

ICCE 2014 will start and overlap with <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al day of CES (Friday 10th January). The Friday program
will feature our <strong>Conference</strong> Keynote and a Review of CES by a number of IEEE technical
experts.
Special Conferece Sessions
ICCE has always prided itself on cover<strong>in</strong>g a broad spectrum of research activity relevant to
Consumer Electronics. ICCE 2014 will <strong>in</strong>corporate several parallel conference tracks of Special,
Invited and Associated Sessions.
Tutorials
Numerous tutorials on emerg<strong>in</strong>g topics are scheduled dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>. Brief proposals are
welcome and should be submitted by June 1st to ckobert@ieee.org. Proposals must <strong>in</strong>clude title,
abstract, detailed outl<strong>in</strong>e, as well as bio and contact <strong>in</strong>formation for <strong>the</strong> presenter.
Doctoral Workshop
The Doctoral Workshop is a more <strong>in</strong>teractive session than a regular conference paper presentation,
with a panel of experienced mentors from academia and <strong>in</strong>dustry provid<strong>in</strong>g specific advice
for improvement on <strong>the</strong> author’s paper and presentation style.

ICCE has always prided itself on cover<strong>in</strong>g a broad spectrum of research activity relevant to
Consumer Electronics. ICCE 2014 will <strong>in</strong>corporate several parallel conference tracks of Special,

Associated Sessions
Follow<strong>in</strong>g a new tradition <strong>the</strong> IEEE Consumer Electronics Society arranges Associated Sessions
related to <strong>the</strong>ir co-sponsored journals and related societies. Full papers submitted to ICCE for
<strong>the</strong>se sessions will be eligible to be published <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> relevant journals subject to <strong>the</strong> normal peer
review process and editorial discretion.

member of <strong>the</strong> ICCE TPC or Executive Committee to submit a paper please mark it explicitly as
“<strong>in</strong>vited”.
Social Events
The ICCE is designed both for education and network<strong>in</strong>g. To support <strong>the</strong> network<strong>in</strong>g, a variety of
social events are built <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> program to allow for <strong>in</strong>formal discussions and to build longer term
relationships of bus<strong>in</strong>ess and personal value. These social events <strong>in</strong>clude:
