OBJECTIVES
APPLICATIONS
In the arena of global finance, General Insurance is a rapidly growing
industry with a stunning variety of career openings for today’s
generation of talented professionals. Just think: in the challenging
climate of 2008, General Insurance in Singapore grew its business
by 16% to S$2.88 billion. This is the kind of industry resilience that

THE ROUTE TO GROWTH
For over 45 years, the General Insurance Association
of Singapore (GIA) has been promoting and advancing
the interests of its members and the industry.
We started the Talent Outreach Project (TOP) to
engage a new generation of young talents, and also
established the Regional Development Committee
(RDC) to focus on developing Human Capital so as
to advance the position of Singapore as the world’s
Global Insurance Capital. The RDC enjoys strong
support from the Monetary Authority of Singapore
(MAS) and Maritime Port Authority (MPA).
To realise this, the next step has to involve you, the
next wave of talented professionals who will drive
the future expansion of the General Insurance
industry. And what better way to see what is on
offer than to learn on-the-job with the very best
global companies?

The Global Internship Programme is open
to all undergraduates of all disciplines
from National University of Singapore
(NUS), Nanyang Technological University
(NTU) and Singapore Management
University (SMU) and takes place during
the May – July semester.
During the 10 weeks of the programme,
interns will be attached to one or more
business units from various hosting
companies (see overleaf).
This programme may include overseas
stints to the UK, USA, Europe, Australia,
China, Japan, India, Thailand, Indonesia,
Hong Kong, etc.
Besides gaining an in-depth
understanding of the multi-faceted
general insurance industry, interns
should also be able to:

of Claims Handling
• Achieve basic understanding
of Business Development
• Associate with industry

ITINERARY
All selected interns will attend a 5-day Pre-Internship
Training to understand the various roles of General
Insurance and Reinsurance practitioners including
Underwriter, Claims Manager, Actuary, Risk Manager,
and Broker.
The Pre-Internship Training Programme will be
conducted by GIA practitioners and is sponsored
by Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
A certificate of attendance will be awarded to
all interns upon completion of the training.
