The 6 th BACSA international conference “Building Value
Chains in Sericulture” - “BISERICA” 2013 will be held in
Padua, Italy from 7 to 12 April 2013. The Council of Research
and Experiments in Agriculture, Apiculture and Sericulture Unit of
Bologna, Padua seat, Italy is hosting the meeting in collaboration
with the Black, Caspian Seas and Central Asia Silk Association
(BACSA).
The main topics of this Conference will be:
‣ The role of science, education and training for the building
of value chains in sericulture;
‣ How to create and manage interfaces between agriculture
(cocoon producers) – proto-industry (raw silk) – industry
(from thread to textile) – markets (end product) and
consumers;
‣ Sericultural industries funding: Towards new business
models.
‣ The role of brands in rebuilding value chains in sericulture
material producers.

The BISERICA 2013 conference is opened to all those
involved and interested in sericulture industry - sericulturists,
agricultural and industrial producers of cocoons, silk and other
sericultural products, administrators, developers, entrepreneurs,
traders, scientists and technicians, working in each step or link of
production and trade chains.
We appreciate presenting contributions on the main
Conference topics as well as country reports, science and
technology papers in the field of mulberry and non-mulberry
silkworms, cocoon and silk production, pathology, breeding and
bacology, using silkworm and mulberry for non-textile purposes,
post-cocoon technologies, silk enterprise and trade.
Exhibition sessions will also be organized for equipment/tools
and sericultural products.

Call for papers
Participants who wish to present papers are invited to
submit an abstract first. The abstracts must be written in
English and sent to Prof. Dr. Panomir Tzenov by the e-
mail, with the Abstract Submission Form.
Closing for abstract submission: March 1 st 2013
Papers: In formats of A4, single line, Times New Roman,
font 12, the text not exceeding 15 pages (tables and
figures included), in English; MS-Word file (s) e-mailattached.
The papers should be sent to Prof. Dr P. Tzenov
by the e-mail.
Deadline for the paper submission: March 31 st 2013.
Each paper, submitted to the conference will be reviewed
by the Scientific committee and if necessary returned back
to the authors for revision. Those papers who do not meet
the requirements for scientific novelty and contributions
may be cancelled for publication in the conference
proceedings.
Registration fee: 250 EURO/person
The registration fee includes: 1) transfer from the Venice
airport if it is scheduled on Saturday or Sunday, 6 th and 7 th
April and transfer to the Venice airport on the days of 12 th
or 13 th April (On other days it will be on charge of
participants); 2) lunch of the day during visit to the
Institute in Padua; 3) guided tour to Como and Milan
(lunches enclosed); 4) Congress materials (abstract book

and gadgets), access to the sericulture products
exhibition.
The registration fee is the same amount both for
Conference participants and accompanying persons.

The first half of April is considered as spring season in
Northern Italy. Average day temperature ranges usually
10 - 20 o C.
Currency: The Italian currency is EURO.
Travel: The foreign conference participants may take
flight to Venice, where CRA will arrange their meeting and
transfer to the hotel in Padua. The local hosting institution
will also arrange the participants transfer back to Venice
airport before their departure. The travel details should be
strictly indicated in the Registration form.
