WHAT WE DO...
Bereavement Services manage 21
cemeteries, 14 closed church yards and the
Crematorium situated at Ardsley. The service
covers all aspects of burials and cremation
and also provides advice to families who
have been bereaved. In addition staff
willundertake searches of burial records for
those who are interested in genealogy.
Barnsley MBC provides a burial and
cremation service including advice on
bereavement matters throughout the
borough.
The service undertakes a safety inspection
programme of headstones within council
owned cemeteries, with a view to making
cemeteries safer for visitors.

We aim to provide the following standards:
Comply with statutory obligations in relation to
burial and cremation
Provide 12 daily service times at Barnsley
Crematorium, Monday to Friday.
We undertake and complete all cremations on the
same day as the service takes place.
We provide a 7 day booking facility for funeral
directors.
We will accommodate up to 10 earth burials each
day.
We will ensure that a Bereavement Services
Officer meets each funeral cortege on arrival at
the crematorium or cemetery.
We ensure that the Bereavement Services office is
staffed and open to the public 8.30 am to
5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30 am to
4.30pm Friday.
We ensure that chapels, facilities and public areas
are clean and well maintained.
We ensure maintenance of grounds, grave digging
and grave preparation operations are in
compliance with the requirements of the contract.

regarding the nature of your complaint
/enquiry as possible. In most cases, in order
to deal with your enquiry, we will need your
name, address and contact details, and
those of the premises subject to your
complaint/enquiry.
We want to improve on the range of
services we offer including the information
in and use of this leaflet.
The service standards in this leaflet are kept
under review and continuous improvements
made in all we do.
And
If you feel something has gone wrong in
the way we have delivered our services to
you, we would like to know about it.
The best way to resolve any problems in the
first instances, is to contact a member of
staff at the place where the service was
provided.

procedure. A separate leaflet, “Complaints

ask for a copy.
