C. Appointment – Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Valley Stream Union Free School
District No. 30 has appointed Gerard Poole to the position of Assistant to the
Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and has granted Mr. Poole tenure in
such position; and
WHEREAS, upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, the Board of
Education seeks to promote Mr. Poole to the position of Assistant Superintendent for
Curriculum and Instruction without loss of tenure or seniority; and
WHEREAS, the Board also seeks to increase Mr. Poole’s salary to reflect the additional
status and responsibilities of his new position.
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that effective September 1, 2012, Gerald Poole’s
appointment as an employee in the Valley Stream Union Free School District No. 30
shall be and hereby is amended to reflect the title of “Assistant Superintendent for
Curriculum and Instruction”; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Mr. Poole shall serve in the position of Assistant
Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction with tenure and his seniority in such
title shall date back to his original date of hire with the District; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Mr. Poole’s duties and responsibilities as
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction shall be consistent with a job
description dated September 1, 2012 as recommended by the Superintendent of Schools
which is hereby adopted by the Board of Education with the District Clerk to attach a
copy of such job description to the minutes of this meeting; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the terms and conditions of employment for Mr.
Poole as set forth in a letter to him from the Superintendent dated June 22, 2012, as
approved by the Board of Education at its meeting on June 25, 2012, is hereby amended
effective September 1, 2012, to reflect an increased annual base salary of $142,000.00.
D. Retroactive Appointment – Extended School Year Special Education Program
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, will the Board of Education
approve the retroactive appointment Kim Jones Sands as a Substitute Special Education
Teacher on an as needed basis in the District’s Extended School Year Summer School
Program for July/August 2012, at the rate set at $44 per hour?

school year to be funded through the IDEA Section 611 grant?
I. Consultant Services – Computer Confidence
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, will the Board of Education
approve the provision of consultant services by Computer Confidence at a cost of $100 per
hour for a total of not-to-exceed eight (8) hours to update, revise and maintain the faculty
data base for the 2012-13 school year?
J. BOCES Letter of Intent – Increase - Elementary Science Program
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, will the Board of Education
approve an increase in the 2012-2013 Nassau BOCES Letter of Intent in the amount of
$7,838 in order for grade 3 to participate in the BOCES Elementary Science Program?
K. BOCES Letter of Intent – Increase - Special Education Student Placement
