NAC Girls Soccer Teams Look To Replenish Offenses<br />

Northern Athletic Conference Girls Soccer teams will be looking to replace<br />

many of last year’s top goal-scorers preparing for the <strong>2012</strong> fall campaigns.<br />

CENTRAL DIVISION<br />

Salmon River: A contender in the Class B race every season under coach<br />

Kathy Valancius, first year coach Liz Durfee enters the regular season as a<br />

Central Divison school.<br />

“Facing many teams we will see in the sectionals will only help us.” said<br />

Durfee who believes her team’s strength will be the midfield graduating<br />

several outstanding scorers in Karyss Terrance (14 goals, six assists), Karlie<br />

Cree (8-7), and Anna Kelly (7-3). Abby Kelly returns after scoring 10 goals<br />

last season. Other returnees include: Taylor Francis, Jaiden Mitchell, Taryn<br />

King, Sam Ghostlaw, Emily Trombley, Dee McDonald, Kaienhwinehtha<br />

Ransom, Carleen Soucia, and Tewasherake Barnes.<br />

Newcomers include: Kwio King, Kwas Laffin, Jocelyn Martin, Kelby Mitchell,<br />

Keri Shenendehowa, Melanie Taylor, Vanna Thomas and Becca Leroux.<br />

Massena: Coach Ryan Hayes believes his team has experience with nine<br />

returners and strength and conditioning will be the teams asset.<br />

“The strength of our team will be our defending, conditioning, and ball<br />

control. We are an experienced team. . We are looking to possess the ball<br />

and control the field of play,” said Hayes who must replace: Taylor Romeo<br />

(1st Team NAC, 13 goals), Morgan Albert (1st Team NAC - 12 goals), and Kallie<br />

Barnes (2nd Team NAC).<br />

NAC Central League MVP Dominique Valancius scored 14 goals last<br />

season and she will be joined by fellow returnees Erin Francis (Sr-Def.),<br />

(Marissa Manley (Sr-Def), Courtney Manley (Soph.- GK), Kathleen Kassian<br />

(Sr-Mid.), Carlie Leary (Jr.-Mid.), Courtney Manley (Soph.-GK), Stephanie<br />

Premo (Jr.-Mid.), Natalie Pesold (Sr.-Mid), and Taylor Bero (Jr.-Def.)<br />

Newcomers include: Taylor Bero (Jr-Def), Shannon Casey (Jr.-Mid.), Mia<br />

Germano (Soph.-Fwd.), Serena Hall (Jr.-Fwd.), Audrey Hayes (Jr.-Mid.),<br />

Nicole Morgan (Soph.-Def.), Iastha Porter (Jr.-Mid.), Chelsea Streeter (Jr.<br />

Def.), Hanna Siddon (Jr.-Def.)<br />

WEST DIVISION<br />

Heuvelton: Heuvelton Coach Gus Burns calls his team “A work in progress”<br />

after finishing 14-4 overall 11-1 in a tight race with Hermon-DeKalb<br />

for NAC West honors in 2011.<br />

“Our strength is also our weakness,” said Burns. “We are young with only<br />

two seniors after graduating Sanna Jaquith, Kelli Hebert, Aliza Armstrong,<br />

and Offensive MVP Emilee Ross. But we have some very good talent returning.”<br />

Ross led the Section in goals last season with 21.<br />

Junior forward Alexis Weider returns after scoring seven goals along with<br />

junior middie Logan Tallman (2 goals, 7 assists) and freshman forward Hannah<br />

Thornhill (4-2).<br />

Also returning are seniors Ashlyn Piercey (Mid) and Abbey Basford (Def);<br />

juniors Maddie St. Pierre (Def), Rachel Thornhill (For), Shelby Williams<br />

(Def), Macy Richardson (Def), Ashlyn Foster (goalie-def), Johanna Carmany<br />

(Mid), Renee Breault (Def-Mid) and sophomores Olivia St. Pierre (Def-Mid),<br />

and Kylie Piercey (Def).<br />

Ali Scalone played varsity at Hammond last season and is a solid defender<br />

while newcomers include Kaitlyn Lashomb (Sr. Def), Morgan Keenan (Soph.<br />

For-Goalie), Taylor Dawley (Sop. For), and Alex Steele (7th-Forward).<br />

Lisbon: Scott Richardson begins his third season looking to build on a<br />

10-8 season despite losing four senior starters including Alison Akins, Sarah<br />

Bodwell, Colleen Hammond, and Alison Crowley.<br />

“We’re still very young with seven freshman. I really expect our leadership<br />

to come from Gabby Walker who has played five years. We might struggle<br />

early but we hope to be very competitive at the end of the season.” said<br />

Richardson.<br />

Sophomore Alex Amo (7 goals, 3 assists) and junior Beth Crowley (7 goals,<br />

7 assists) shared the Knights’ goal-scoring lead last season. Emily Dishaw<br />

was also a talented player last season with five goals while Madison Vine<br />

also shows scoring potential. Jackie Sovie, one of the best goalies in the section,<br />

will anchor the defense with fullback Alyshia Murray and Holly Williams.<br />

This year’s team also includes: Katie Barney, Mercedes Bigelow, Maeve<br />

Bowdish, Shelby Dishaw, Sierra Erwin, Aniessa Fields, Sam Gladle, Courtney<br />

Green, Rileigh Mee, Hanna Richardson, Katie Sovie, and Holly Williams.<br />

Hermon-DeKalb: Graduation took the Demons top three scorers from<br />

last years 15-4 club: Franchesca Trombley (19 goals, six assists), Courtney<br />

White (15-5), and Jocelyn Moulton (13-8) and top defenders Brianna Sayer<br />

and Thanisha Scales.<br />

“We’re going to have a small team this year. We lost a lot of seniors,” said<br />

Coach Jan Merchant.<br />

Kasey O’Donnell is the top scorer back with seven goals and seven assists.<br />

Other players include Margo Barney, Rhys Bryant, Kelsey Cleveland, Courtney<br />

Harrington, Chelsey MacKay, Rebecca Matthews, Taylor Morrill, Abbey<br />

Mott, Sadie Smith, Morgan Stott, Brooke Woodrow and Paige Whitton.<br />

Morristown: Coach Danielle Folino will guide a young Rockets<br />

squad into her second NAC West campaign with just 14 players.<br />

“We are small in numbers but they’ve worked hard,” said Folino. Playing<br />

for the Rockets this season are: Logan Green (8th Grade Def), Hailey Whitmarsh<br />

(8th Forw), Eilssa Baldwin (9th HB), Victoria Mitchell (9th Line), Taylor<br />

Piercey (9th Line), Liz Troiano (9th Def), Jessica Geddes (Soph. Line),<br />

Makaela Roberts (Soph. Def), Samantha Green (Soph. Def), Erica Baldwin<br />

(Jr. Def), Makenzie Barse (Jr. Def), Karissa Bertrand (Jr. Goalie-Def), Erica<br />

Fishe (Sr. Def), and Caitlyn Jock (Sr. Line-Def).<br />

Clifton-Fine: Coach Bob Lachut begins his final tour of the NAC West in<br />

his 32nd year at the helm of the Eagles. The Eagles finished 3-11 last season<br />

and return All Northern Alexis Pomerville at striker. Other returners include:<br />

Brianna Dolan (Sr. Mid), Lindsay Johnson (Sr. goalie), Zoe Kimmes<br />

(Sr. For), Alanna Silsby (Jr. Def), Emma Hitchman (Jr. Def), Erica Daniels<br />

(Soph. For), and Delaney Kerr (Soph. Def). Newcomers include: Mallory<br />

Folsom (Sr. Mid), Alicia Cole (Jr. For-Mid), Taylor Durham (Soph. Mid), Bianca<br />

Terry (Soph. Def), Rachel Eibert (Fr. For), Dallas Crane (Fr. For), and<br />

Megan Stiles (Fr. For).<br />

EAST DIVISION<br />

Colton-Pierrepont: The Colts have a solid core of returning players for<br />

Coach Craig Bogart whose team finished 6-12 last year but with just two seniors<br />

the team will be very young.<br />

Kathryn Miller, Abbie Johnson, Autumn Clark (4 goals), Kylie McKinley<br />

(two goals), Andrea Aldous (four goals), Morgan Doyle, Sara Guiney,<br />

Sabrina Johnson, Rachael Vaccaro, and Haylee Hennessy (three goals) all<br />

return as the Colts will look the replace Tara Hennessy, Brianna Beaulieu,<br />

and Hunter Farr. Newcomers include: Cortney Miller, Makayla Reed, Kelsi<br />

Gilbert, Alexis VanBrocklin, Kendra Gilbert, Eve Whalen, Madison Gregg,<br />

Hannah Hogle and Maia Knight .<br />

Madrid-Waddington: Coach Gary Tischler will finish his outstanding<br />

soccer coaching career with the girls program after guiding the boys to a<br />

pair of state final fours. He takes over a program which finished 10-8 last<br />

season and must replace Courtney Ashley, Stephanie Carkner, Sierra Fox,<br />

Megan Gabri, Shelby Gausby (2 goals, three assists), Taylor Marcellus (5-4),<br />

Brittany Pierce (15-7), Lauren Sharpe and Sara Taber.<br />

Returning are Miykayla Blair, Emily Doegler, Sierra Dumas, Shelby Kendall,<br />

Taylor Lenny (5-4), Katie Marcellus, Cassandra McKnight, Desirea<br />

Pryce, Katie Tiernan, Andrea Wyman, and Zoey Zagrobelny. Bridget Beldock<br />

can’t play this fall due to an injury.<br />

Newcomers include: Alison Fobare, Tessa Knight, Jess LeMay, Kaileigh<br />

Fields, Kaila Hargrave, and Hanna Hill.<br />
