The latest member of TSL’s Precision <strong>Audio</strong> Monitor<br />
(<strong>PAM</strong>) product family, <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> is a compact, yet<br />
comprehensively equipped, st<strong>and</strong>alone audio <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>Loudness</strong> meter featuring the revolutionary StarFish <br />
surround sound display.<br />
Designed for use in any operational position<br />
where ‘at a glance’ audio metering is required,<br />
<strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> is available in three formats; to display<br />
stereo, multichannel or surround sound audio from<br />
analogue, AES or embedded SDI signal sources, all<br />
measuring <strong>Loudness</strong> to international st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong><br />
recommendations including ITU, EBU <strong>and</strong> ATSC.<br />
Both simple to use <strong>and</strong> easy to configure, <strong>PAM</strong><br />
<strong>PiCo</strong> puts high quality metering within easy reach<br />
of anyone involved in sound production, from<br />
operators working throughout broadcast production<br />
to music studio technicians <strong>and</strong> record producers.<br />
A model to suit every application<br />
<strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> is available in three versions:<br />
<strong>PiCo</strong> One<br />
Master Stereo <strong>Meter</strong>, 2 x AES Inputs (4 x audio channels)<br />
or 1 x AES Input (2 x audio channels) + 1 x Analogue<br />
Pair <strong>and</strong> USB power (PSU supplied).<br />

Compact metering without compomise<br />
The <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> has been designed to meet increasing market<br />
dem<strong>and</strong>s for simple, cost effective audio metering, specifically<br />
with loudness measurement. Like the award winning TSL<br />
<strong>PAM</strong>1 <strong>and</strong> <strong>PAM</strong>2 audio monitoring units, <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> includes<br />
<strong>Loudness</strong> measurement as st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>and</strong> recognises the many<br />
international recommendations <strong>and</strong> m<strong>and</strong>ates.<br />
No bigger than a smartphone <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> h<strong>and</strong>les stereo or<br />
5.1 metering with a vast array of user-selectable bargraphs,<br />
moving coil emulation <strong>and</strong> StarFish surround sound displays<br />
for use in diverse audio monitoring applications from broadcast<br />
<strong>and</strong> theatre to music production <strong>and</strong> AV.<br />
Built around proprietary hardware the <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> does not rely<br />
on a 3rd party consumer electronics platform <strong>and</strong> is selfcontained;<br />
only requiring power <strong>and</strong> media to function.<br />
The <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> is easy to use, easy to install <strong>and</strong> is packaged<br />
with its own desk-mount <strong>and</strong> interface cable. The <strong>PiCo</strong> 3<br />
version can accept SDI video inputs with up to 16 channels<br />
of audio de-embedding, digital audio <strong>and</strong> analogue inputs.<br />
All models are supplied with ITU, EBU, ATSC <strong>and</strong> ARIB<br />
loudness measurement as st<strong>and</strong>ard.<br />
Online software updates ensure that <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> can be<br />
kept up to date with the latest international st<strong>and</strong>ards<br />
<strong>and</strong> recommendations.
<strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> <strong>Loudness</strong> Measurement<br />
TSL <strong>PAM</strong> Pico displays Integrated <strong>and</strong> sliding scale<br />
loudness measurement simultaneously with an<br />
option to show loudness history across an extended<br />
graphical display. Parameters are fully configurable<br />
via a comprehensive <strong>and</strong> intuitive setup menu.<br />
<strong>Loudness</strong> Presets<br />
All versions of <strong>PAM</strong> <strong>PiCo</strong> are pre-configured with<br />
<strong>Loudness</strong> Preset memories allowing the user to<br />
instantly recall st<strong>and</strong>ard setups which comply with<br />
international st<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> recommendations<br />
including ITU BS-1770 (1 <strong>and</strong> 2), EBU R128, ATSC<br />
A/85, LEQ(m), ARIB <strong>and</strong> many other local <strong>and</strong><br />
regional variations. Users can tailor parameters<br />
such as reference, peak <strong>and</strong> gate levels to suit<br />
their specific requirements <strong>and</strong> save them to<br />
internal user memory locations.<br />
The Starfish Display<br />
The StarFish is a development of the JellyFish ®<br />
surround audio display created by DK-Technologies.<br />
It provides a picture of the 5.1 surround audio<br />
energy field. The display has the front centre channel<br />
arranged towards the top with other directions as<br />
marked to represent the listeners’ field of hearing.<br />
The image here shows the StarFish display with<br />
equal audio on all legs. Typical sound fields have<br />
energy in a variety of directions <strong>and</strong> more complex<br />
shapes are created which give an indication of<br />
sound energy within each channel. Unlike the earlier<br />
JellyFish display within which a representation of<br />
the equal signal would have shown a circle, the<br />
StarFish takes into account the summation which<br />
occurs when there is coherent (in-phase) content<br />
between adjacent legs such as left <strong>and</strong> centre.<br />
Polarity inverted (out of phase) signals can cause the<br />
shape to be pulled inwards towards the centre point,<br />
reflecting the perceived cancellation that occurs.<br />
