The latest member of TSL’s Precision Audio Monitor
(PAM) product family, PAM PiCo is a compact, yet
comprehensively equipped, standalone audio and
Loudness meter featuring the revolutionary StarFish
surround sound display.
Designed for use in any operational position
where ‘at a glance’ audio metering is required,
PAM PiCo is available in three formats; to display
stereo, multichannel or surround sound audio from
analogue, AES or embedded SDI signal sources, all
measuring Loudness to international standards and
recommendations including ITU, EBU and ATSC.
Both simple to use and easy to configure, PAM
PiCo puts high quality metering within easy reach
of anyone involved in sound production, from
operators working throughout broadcast production
to music studio technicians and record producers.
A model to suit every application
PAM PiCo is available in three versions:
PiCo One
Master Stereo Meter, 2 x AES Inputs (4 x audio channels)
or 1 x AES Input (2 x audio channels) + 1 x Analogue
Pair and USB power (PSU supplied).
PiCo Two
Master 5.1 Surround Meter, 3 x AES Inputs
(6 audio channels) + 1 x Analogue Pair and USB power
(PSU supplied).
PiCo Three
Master 5.1 Surround Meter, 3G HD-SDI (auto-sensing
with loop-through) 16 channel audio de-embedder
(simultaneous display of any 8 channels), and USB power
(PSU supplied).
Compact metering without compomise
The PAM PiCo has been designed to meet increasing market
demands for simple, cost effective audio metering, specifically
with loudness measurement. Like the award winning TSL
PAM1 and PAM2 audio monitoring units, PAM PiCo includes
Loudness measurement as standard and recognises the many
international recommendations and mandates.
No bigger than a smartphone PAM PiCo handles stereo or
5.1 metering with a vast array of user-selectable bargraphs,
moving coil emulation and StarFish surround sound displays
for use in diverse audio monitoring applications from broadcast
and theatre to music production and AV.
Built around proprietary hardware the PAM PiCo does not rely
on a 3rd party consumer electronics platform and is selfcontained;
only requiring power and media to function.
The PAM PiCo is easy to use, easy to install and is packaged
with its own desk-mount and interface cable. The PiCo 3
version can accept SDI video inputs with up to 16 channels
of audio de-embedding, digital audio and analogue inputs.
All models are supplied with ITU, EBU, ATSC and ARIB
loudness measurement as standard.
Online software updates ensure that PAM PiCo can be
kept up to date with the latest international standards
and recommendations.

PAM PiCo Loudness Measurement
TSL PAM Pico displays Integrated and sliding scale
loudness measurement simultaneously with an
option to show loudness history across an extended
graphical display. Parameters are fully configurable
via a comprehensive and intuitive setup menu.
Loudness Presets
All versions of PAM PiCo are pre-configured with
Loudness Preset memories allowing the user to
instantly recall standard setups which comply with
international standards and recommendations
including ITU BS-1770 (1 and 2), EBU R128, ATSC
A/85, LEQ(m), ARIB and many other local and
regional variations. Users can tailor parameters
such as reference, peak and gate levels to suit
their specific requirements and save them to
internal user memory locations.
The Starfish Display
The StarFish is a development of the JellyFish ®
surround audio display created by DK-Technologies.
It provides a picture of the 5.1 surround audio
energy field. The display has the front centre channel
arranged towards the top with other directions as
marked to represent the listeners’ field of hearing.
The image here shows the StarFish display with
equal audio on all legs. Typical sound fields have
energy in a variety of directions and more complex
shapes are created which give an indication of
sound energy within each channel. Unlike the earlier
JellyFish display within which a representation of
the equal signal would have shown a circle, the
StarFish takes into account the summation which
occurs when there is coherent (in-phase) content
between adjacent legs such as left and centre.
Polarity inverted (out of phase) signals can cause the
shape to be pulled inwards towards the centre point,
reflecting the perceived cancellation that occurs.
