Seminary to meet the Church’s
urgent pastoral needs!
St. Peter’s Seminary is a gift from God and a gift
to our Church. I am affirming my support for St.
Peter’s Seminary, for its Rector, the faculty and
staff, and the volunteers and staff of the Seminary
Foundation. I remain convinced that our Diocese is
stronger with our Seminary, and I ask the people of
our diocese to continue supporting this institution
which has given exceptional service to our people
for over a century, so that it will remain a beacon
of hope and source of renewal for our faith.
Prayer for Personal Vocations
“I am only one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
What I ought to do, by the Grace of God, I will do.”
Edward Everett Hale
From the Seminary Rector
Our Lord Jesus teaches us that the Kingdom
of God begins with something as small
as a mustard seed, as insignificant as a
single net cast from the bow of a boat.
Jesus’ own ministry gives visible witness
to how his message of love, begun by
the preaching of only twelve faithful
followers, has extended to the whole
world. The mission of St. Peter’s Seminary
is to respond to the personal acceptance of
God’s call by individual people, and prepare
them for service and leadership within Christ’s Body,
the Church, to proclaim the Gospel message to their brothers and
sisters with conviction, enthusiasm and joy.
St. Peter’s Seminary does more than simply train people for “jobs”
in the Catholic Church. The core of our mission is to facilitate
among our students a deepening relationship with Jesus, so that
they can enter into the life of their local parishes, schools, hospitals
and neighbourhoods with the skills and the passion to bring the
Light of the World into every dimension of human life.
The graduates of St. Peter’s Seminary seek to make a difference,
as a small bit of yeast does when mixed with dough, through
their gift of selfless service in response to
God’s call. By joining with us, even in
a small way, you will become part
of our body who serves the larger
Body of Christ. Together we will plant
seeds of the Gospel in our world today
and tomorrow!
“The kingdom of heaven is like a
mustard seed, which a man took and
planted in his field. Though it is the
smallest of all your seeds, yet when it
grows, it is the largest of garden plants
and becomes a tree, so that the birds of
the air come and perch in its branches.”
St. Peter’s Seminary is where
the seeds are sewn and
nurtured to meet the needs
of the future Church.
“The seminary is a seedbed for all sorts of
seeds. The seeds are planted in all the areas
of our lives; our families, our schools,
our places of work, our communities,
but whatever their origin, each seed is
nourished in the rich soil of formation.
While we might spend only a few short
years in this environment, our entire
vocation is to reap the fruits of that
which has grown here.”
Allen Varlaki, Seminarian
Diocese of Hamilton
“I can’t say enough about the
formation I experienced at
St. Peter’s Seminary. But it
doesn’t end there, our future
depends on St. Peter’s to
prepare those called to serve
in the vineyard.”
Deacon John Shiha,
Diocese of London
In 1912, Catholics saw the need for diocesan priests and
built St. Peter’s Seminary literally from the ground up.
Generations of supporters nourished and maintained the
seminary. A century later, St. Peter’s Seminary continues
to sow the seeds of future servant-leaders: priests,
permanent deacons, lay ministers, and others.
By supporting and nourishing the seminary TODAY,
you are assuring the harvest of Christ’s kingdom for
TOMORROW and generations to come.
“St. Peter’s Seminary has been a beacon
of truth and academic excellence for
over 100 years. Students of Theology,
Philosophy, Catholic Social Teaching and
Spirituality are given a solid foundation
by exceptional professors. In my field
of entertainment, I will benefit from
my studies and experiences at this
outstanding institution!"
“I see myself serving the Church of
the Future by tending to the needs
of my brothers and sisters in God’s
vast pastures. As I continue my
discernment at St. Peter’s, my aim is
to cultivate my call to holiness and
bear much fruit in priestly ministry.”
