from the
Dear Members:
The past three months have offered a wide variety
of events and activities for members of all ages and
February continues this trend with a host of social,
dining and sports happenings.
We encourage you to join fellow members in the
Dinner Buffet featuring traditional tailgating fare and an evening of camaraderie
as you cheer on your favorite team. Our Valentine’s Dinner Dance on February
11th is a perfect venue to show that special someone in your life an evening to
remember. We hope you will invite two of your friends and join us the next day
for the Mixed Member-Guest Golf Tournament beginning at 11:15am; this is the
best event to showcase the Club and to encourage friends to become members.
The professional staff has organized a President’s Week guaranteed to please our
children and grandchildren with a spectacular Street Fair and Carnival on
February 20th followed by our traditional President’s Day Dinner Buffet in the
General
Style
from the Manager
Dear Members,
As we head into the second month of 2012, it is gratifying to report
that member participation and positive feedback indicate everyone
is enjoying the St. Andrews Lifestyle, whether on the golf course, the
tennis courts, the spa/fitness facilities, or attending our dining and
social events. The mood around the Club is upbeat and full of
anticipation for the fun yet to come this season.
We were excited to see the outstanding sign up for the Clint Holmes
event, which quickly moved to a sold out status. Another grand day
will be the President’s Day activities on Monday, February 20th starting
at 11:30am, geared especially for the youngsters. These activities will
offer a lot of fun as we have a carnival and street fair planned at our Craig D. Martin, CCM,
Chief Operating Officer
grass field area located to the right side of the Club’s front entry.
and General Manager
Please bring your children and grandchildren for an afternoon of
carnival rides and games. Snack food and beverages will be available
for purchase. For wine enthusiasts, the Silver Oak Wine Dinner on February 16th will
feature a special menu with select wines from the Silver Oak Vineyard, one of the country’s
premier wineries. Our Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance on February 11th will feature a
specially prepared Chef’s Menu with select wines and great entertainment for a night to
remember. Jackets are required for this evening event.
During President’s Week we have also planned weeklong Junior Tennis and Junior Golf
programs. Morgan Pressel will be assisting Glenn Hall with a Golf Rules Member Party on
February 1st. The program is designed to help members understand the do’s and don’ts of
golf rules and better acquaint them with local and USGA rules. The Men’s Member-Guest
golf event was our best ever according to a large group of members who participate
annually. Great efforts were made by the committee members, Errol Cook and Michael
Block along with the Professional Food and Beverage Team, and especially Golf who put
their heart and soul into making this a memorable day.
By the way, a special note of thanks is due to the organizer of the Ladies’ Member-Guest
Card Party, Ellen Liebman and her wonderful group of volunteers, Linda Anikstein, Linda
Bodian, Alice Glassman, Shelley Harris, Mimi Leeds, Billie Mesner and Ronnie Schneider
who planned and coordinated with Shannon Fitzpatrick to make this year’s event our
largest with over 530 ladies present. It was a great success and I know how proud our
members were to hear the glowing comments from their guests.
Also, don’t forget to come and support our own Aaron Krickstein playing against Michael
Chang on February 27th at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, host to this year’s ATP
Champions Tour Event.
We are excited to see so many new members joining St. Andrews and actively using the
Club. There is a great buzz being created in the real estate community by our new
Membership program. We ask that you continue to promote the Club and community to
your family and friends who may be interested in becoming a member.
With our budget and revenue pacing better than budget in our first three months of the
fiscal year, we continue to closely monitor expenses on a daily basis and ensure that we
continually keep our Club events representative of our brand promise and Members’
expectations.
Here’s to a great season and the best of the best!
Dining
As the season progresses at St. Andrews we are excited
to introduce four more new Lakeside menus this season.
These additional menus are sure to appeal to anyone’s
appetite. Whether it is for a quite bit to eat, or for a relaxed
evening with good friends, Lakeside’s new menus will be
sure to satisfy.
The Food & Beverage team is very excited for you to
join us this month when fresh Pacific Halibut will be
running and at its peak flavor at this time of year. The
Pacific Halibut, a light texture and tasting fish, is sought by
all those that are connoisseurs. The culinary team will be
preparing Pacific Halibut in many different styles offering
an opportunity for all members to enjoy a heart healthy
fish. So, just for the Halibut, we invite you to join us for this
limited offering during the month of February and enjoy
one of the great treasures of the Pacific.
We hope that you and your loved one will be joining us
for our Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance on February 11 th .
Don’t forget to fill out your form and
return it to us with your party and
food choices.
The Fireside Bistro has been well
received by all members. The bistro
concept is to provide you with an easy,
café style venue to grab a quick bite to eat
and then go on with their evening plans.
Members and their guests can come into a causal
atmosphere, with an appetite, and still be satisfied in a
short amount of time. We hope that you will join us for
the experience in the next couple of months.
this opportunity to announce
that soon our wine list will
go digital! Our great wine list
will be available to you on an
working with Shared Marketing
Services in Chicago to develop a software
program to display our current wine list on
the iPad with remarkable capabilities. You
will be able to sort our wines in a variety of ways that will help
you select the perfect wine for your dining experience. Each
wine we carry will have the bottle image, tasting notes, and
information about the vineyard at your fingertips. We can’t wait
to share this new experience with you here at St. Andrews,
which will be the first country club in the area to offer this
exciting technology.
On another note, please don’t forget to sign
Golf – How to Get Started
When it comes to getting into the golf game, St. Andrews Country Club members have a highly trained
Professional Staff that is more than capable of helping you embark on your journey to become a golfer.
The first step is participating in an orientation featuring our golf operations. Either Paul Clivio, Head
Golf Professional or myself will show you around, introduce you to our golf professional staff and go over in
detail our spectacular facility. We will show you our many resources that can help golfers of all levels
improve and enjoy the game to their fullest extent. Additionally, we will teach you the basic rules of the Club
concerning golf along with an understanding of the rules of golf and etiquette of the game.
If you are a new golfer, don’t feel you need to go out and buy a set of clubs right away, in fact, just
the opposite! Let us help you. We have loaners and demos for you to use in your initial phases as a golfer. Once
you have progressed to a sufficient level, we can then discuss your needs and help you make a proper selection
regarding equipment.
If you are a new golfer the place to start is on the putting green. You must first develop a
sensitivity and awareness for rolling a ball the appropriate distance. We will take you through the
basic setup and address position, developing your confidence during the process. From the putting
green you will learn to chip, pitch and progress to a full swing. We will help you build the
foundation of your swing and keep you progressing at your pace.
Moreover, we have ways of getting you out on the golf course almost immediately so you can
see the beauty of our two courses and enjoy the experience.
Our goal is to get you playing as soon as possible and be able to do it without a lot of anxiety
and tension. Our team has been highly trained to make golf a great experience for you and we
welcome the opportunity to get you started!
Court Action
Over Net
the
Our tennis season continues to be extremely active
and enjoyable. The December holiday break was by far
the busiest we’ve ever had at our beautiful tennis facility.
From lessons, clinics and increased social play, the courts
were extremely busy – which was so nice to see. Our
Junior Holiday Clinics were sold out almost every day
and the kids had a blast! Our most recent event, the
annual Men’s / Women’s Pro-Am, was sold out for the
first time in history! We had twenty-four members
compete with and against twenty-four of the best South
Florida professionals in this always popular event. The
weather was spectacular and when all matches were
completed, three time Pro-Am winner Steve Rosenfeld
was simply too good as he edged out Finalist and “Mr.
Slice” Rick Ender. As for the ladies, Sandy Kofsky used
her competitiveness and aggressive net play to win the
title over Finalist Sue Katz. Thanks to all participants
for supporting this awesome event.
We currently have three men’s senior teams, and
all are playing well and enjoying their league matches.
Our three ladies teams are also very competitive and
are working hard to improve and hopefully move up
in the standings.
Upcoming events include our Ladies Member
– Guest on Monday, February 6th, Addison Reserve
“Canal Cup” Challenge on Saturday, March 3rd, Men’s
Member – Guest on Friday, March 9th and the Mixed
Doubles Club Championships on Saturday, March 17th.
Please come out and support these wonderful events.
Aaron Krickstein
Director of Tennis
Finally, I want to remind everybody once again
about the Delray Beach Champions Tournament in late
February. Yours truly will be playing at least three
matches on February 25, 26 and 27, headlined by a
7:00pm night encounter on Monday, February 27 vs.
former French Open Champion and former world #2
Michael Chang. This match promises to be very exciting
so if you are interested in attending, please call the
Tennis Pro Shop to reserve your seats at 470-6569.
Hope to see you there and as always, see you on
the courts!
poaching, simmering, searing, roasting, frying, curing,
drying, smoking, marinating, grinding, pureeing, forming,
molding, piping, spreading, slicing, cutting, carving, rolling,
crimping, tossing and presentation. All of these skills are
evident in the amazing, unique salads he and his team
create for the Club every day.
Since 1974 Chef Jose has won 5 Culinary Gold Medals:
2 from the Bermuda Agricultural Exhibition; 2 from New
York Annual Culinary Art for tallow and marzipan; and
one for tallow work in Canadian Olympics. Most recently
he received 2 First Place Awards in Ice Carving and First
Experience our
newest Class —
Krav Maga
Krav Maga was derived from street-fighting skills
developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his
training as a boxer and wrestler as a means of defending
Ginger Alfano
Director of Fitness
the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Bratislava in the mid-to-late 1930s.
In the late-1940s, following his emigration to Israel, Lichtenfeld began to provide
lessons on combat training to what was to become the Israel Defense Forces
(IDF). It has since been refined for civilian, police and military applications.
We would like to invite all members of St. Andrews and their guests to come and
experience our newest class - Krav Maga. You can watch or participate, and
please feel free to look for Frank in the fitness center to ask me any questions
you may have about Krav Maga. In addition to the Krav Maga group class, the
instructor, Frank Gallo, also offers private sessions for one or more individuals.
In Krav Maga, you’ll learn how to defeat attackers and have a fighting chance if
surprised. Additionally, you’ll learn how to deal with your opponent irrespective
of their size, training background or experience level. Most importantly, the
system can be learned quickly as it is based on simple and reflexive moves that
work when you need them to.
Krav Maga styles can be adapted for all different levels of physical fitness and
and physical challenges. Have a bad knee, shoulder, back? It doesn’t matter -
we can adapt the technique to fit any size or age.
The Krav Maga Group Class is Mondays at 5:00pm.
The Best Way to Enjoy the Spa
A trip to the Spa should be a relaxing experience for everyone. Following a few basic spa guidelines will help enhance your
time — as well as everyone else’s around you. Here are some practical guidelines to make sure you get the most out of
your experience with us.
1. Cancellations. Be sure to always cancel your
appointment in a timely manner. Changes and cancellations
must be made by 4 pm the day prior to your scheduled
appointment or a 50% charge will be incurred.
2. Show up on Time. It is important to arrive on time
so that you are guaranteed to receive the full time of
your service.
3. No Cell Phones. For the convenience of all members
and their guests, cell phones are prohibited in the Spa.
Please ensure that your cell phone is turned off before
entering the facility. A quite atmosphere makes the
environment more relaxing for everyone.
4. Use Spa Voices. While in the lounge area and spa
hallways please be sure to speak quietly as there could
be a treatment taking place in a room near by.
5. Guest Passes. Please remember that guests are
welcome to utilize our facilities with the appropriate
Guest Pass or accompanied by you.
Our facility is a full service spa offering facials, waxing,
massage, body treatments and nail services. Should you
have any questions regarding our services or guidelines
please do not hesitate to call us at 561-470-6555.
Dear Friends & Neighbors,
How fortunate we, the Members of St. Andrews, are to
have the hardworking, creative, and talented staff that we
do. Without all the St. Andrews family of employees this
massive event, this Committees’ 7th, could never have
been made possible.
From the guidance of Craig Martin, to the incredible ice
sculpture created by Chef Jose; to the delicious food by
Chef Steve, Pastry Chef Santiago and staff; to Marco, our
Director of Clubhouse Operations, to Jaime Rocabado and
staff setting up the luncheon and card tables; to our new
Catering Director, Shannon Fitzpatrick, and Melissa
Mattus who with patience worked to bring our visions to
fruition, to Michele Zelin and others too many to mention
– Thank you a million times over. We, at St. Andrews, are
blessed to have you.
Finally, Linda Anikstein, co-chair and creative advisor
and I want to thank the amazing committee with the help
of many friends for all their time, efforts, support,
expertise, advice and devotion.
A whole is the sum of its parts. One and all made this
Happ y Valentine’s Day
Spring is around the corner
and there is no better way to enjoy the fabulous Florida weather than with a spring soiree! Our quaint
herb garden or outdoor pool area is the perfect location to kick off a spring celebration! St. Andrews
has assistance from a great list of preferred vendors and professionals in the area that help make
event dreams truly a reality! We can assist in coordinating that special touch that sets your affair apart
from the ordinary. From fabulous floral arrangements to pops of color and texture with luxurious
linens, we can assist you in creating an event to be talked about for years.
Circle your calendars for the Spring Social which is scheduled for April 21st and will take full
advantage of our fine Florida weather as we celebrate the seasons close under the stars outside
this year.
From large to small events celebrate with the season’s hottest trends. Unique boutique champagnes
are now replacing sugary specialty cocktails upon event arrival. Design trends are leaning toward
simplicity with crisp white and navy dominating this spring. Nautical themes are everywhere and certainly can work
into a spring cookout or cocktail party. Add a bright pop of sherbet hues
or poppy orange to add a bold twist to the trend. Room design layouts
are trending toward a residential feel with requests for conversation
friendly seating vignettes rather than typical round tables during events.
Working closely with some of our preferred vendors we have achieved
this trend as we have created a living room feel at several events with
soft seating, couches and coffee tables to inspire conversation and
create a comfortable atmosphere for guests.
If you have any questions or need assistance planning your next event
please feel free to reach out to the catering department.
