Health Care
In 2012, United Way provided funding to MultiCare’s
Ready Set Go 5-2-1-0 program. With a Community
Outreach Coordinator, made possible by the
grant, this collaborative program reached 720
medical providers, 3,810 community members
and 24 schools last year. The school programs, in
partnership with YMCA afterschool care, shared the
message of healthy eating, limited screen time and
an active lifestyle to almost 10,000 students. A sixweek
study of third and fourth graders in the program
found that one out of three increased activity and
water consumption and one out of eight students
decreased screen time. Additionally, United Way of
Pierce County funded 29 health programs as part of
the Community Solutions Fund.
