Collie Power Station
Operation & Maintenance Contract
Western Power has appointed a new operation and maintenance contractor for Collie Power
Station.
The Transfield BRW Power Services joint venture was awarded the six year O&M contract at
the end of a rigorous competitive tender process.
Western Power General Manager John Lillywhite said the new arrangement, which begins on 27
March 2005, was good for Western Power, its customers and the State of Western Australia.
The joint venture offered the best commercial and technical bid. Western Power anticipates
considerable cost savings during the term of the contract, which will be enhanced by a joint
commitment to continuous improvement.
Since the Collie Power Station began operating in 1999, Pacific Western, a subsidiary of the
NSW generator Eraring Energy, has been the O&M contractor.
Expressions of interest attracted 13 submissions and resulted in a short list of five strong
candidates.
A Transfield BRW Power Services spokesperson said the Collie Power Station contract was an
important addition to the portfolio of each of the joint venture partners.
“Both joint venture partners have a strong presence in WA and bring experience in power station
management and engineering to the project. We look forward to working closely with Western
Power to maintain the strong performance of Collie Power Station,” the spokesman said.
Transfield Services has power station management experience in Queensland and is building the
new peaking power station in Kemerton. Burns and Roe Worley (BRW) is a subsidiary of the
Worley Parsons group and is a successful engineering firm with experience across Australia.

The transition from Pacific Western to the Transfield BRW Power Services joint venture has
started. The transition will be seamless.
Transfield BRW Power Services expect to be able to make offers of employment to most of the
existing workforce at Collie Power Station. This process will commence in the next few days.
With 330MW capacity, Collie Power Station has the biggest single generating unit in Western
Power’s portfolio and is one of the most modern and efficient coal-fired power stations in
Australia.
