Hi Barbara,
Last week, we discussed some of the proposed changes in curricula for
SEBA. The refinement of concentrations, proposal of courses that meet
more than one objective (e.g., contributed to more than one concentration,
were conceived as meeting new core requirements) are important steps in
meeting the needs of students while enhancing the integrity and relevance
of their degrees. The changes to core requirements, while perhaps initiated
because of AACSB standards, are substantive improvements regardless of
accreditation. They bring us more in line with the expectations of most
institutions of higher education and post-graduate employers. I also
appreciate the way that these changes are being proposed with attention to
the reality of limited resources. Finally, they should result in greater student
enrollment in SEBA programs and higher retention and graduation rates.
I realize that the changes require considerable energy not just in planning,
but in the advising, course and faculty development that they have already
and will continue to require. This realization makes me all the more grateful

for the work already done and that which lies ahead. Regards, -b.
Dear Barbara,
The Anthropology Department is in complete accord with the School
of Business proposed Curriculum changes that would eliminate the need
for Marketing students to take Anthropology 001: Introduction to Cultural
and Social Anthropology. Our introductory courses are heaving enrolled -
in fact, over-enrolled with waiting lists, and the absence of the Marketing
students would give us more space for freshpeople.
I am happy to confirm that you have discussed the impact of the removal of
math 3 from the business curriculum with me and we in the math
department are aware of the impact it will have on our courses.
Barbara;
After discussing your revisions with interested members of the Economics
Department, I feel that you have addressed the concerns of our department
adequately. These concerns dealt mainly with fewer Business students
taking upper division Economics classes. The combination of bundling certain
pairs of Economics courses for your concentrations, and the likelihood that

your new programs would increase the total number of Business majors,
seems to mitigate any significant threat to the number of Business students
taking upper division economics classes. We wish you great success with
your program revision and thank you for allowing us to participate in the
process.
Hi Barbara,
I'm currently Chair. As far as I know there will no significant impact if you remove
Sociology from the choices students have.
Yes, I have been notified, and yes you may send it to the Dean. I am not
trying to accomplish anything here, I just feel obligated every once in a
while to state what I consider obvious. I am not criticizing your class or it's
content per se, but I am pretty sure business and non-business majors hear
arguments in our classes they won't hear anywhere else on campus. And
what you don't hear can never challenge you.
Take care,
Barbara,
After consultation with the faculty and Dean Woolpert, and discussion among the Communication
Department faculty, the Communication Department has agreed to the inclusion of Communication 125 in
the Business Department's Digital Media Concentration.
This agreement reflects our understanding that we will be tracking ratios of business students to
communication students in Comm 125 and that we will reevaluate the collaboration in the second year
(2013-14), particularly in terms of whether problems have arisen due to over-enrollment of Comm 125.
