Aaron R. Burke, Vandalia, Ohio, is
still working half-time at Wright-
Patterson Air Force Base Materials
Laboratory, doing basic research
in chemistry, after retiring from
Mound Lab, a Department of
Energy facility, in 2000. Aaron and
his wife, Anne, travel extensively,
especially since they have grandchildren
in San Diego and Stockholm.
Douglas L. Schmucker, Bolinas,
California, tells us that after nearly
forty years at the research bench, he
recently closed his laboratory and
retired as a senior career research
scientist at the San Francisco VA
Medical Center and as professor in
the School of Medicine, University
of California-San Francisco, but he
was recalled by the university one
month later. He continues to direct
the first eight weeks of the medical
school curriculum, teach first- and
second-year medical students, and
participate in university administration.
He tells us that this has
permitted him to spend more time
pursuing various projects at home,
to fish and surf, and to travel with
his wife, Joan, to Europe, Australia,
New Zealand, and Eastern Africa in
the past three years. Any classmates
traveling in the Bay Area are invited
to contact Doug for a “reunion”
“I plan on
retiring
two years
after I die.”
—John J. Fallat
(douglas.schmucker@ucsf.edu).
Doug also hopes to attend the fiftieth
class reunion. Jeffery S. Tullman,
New York, reports that he is happy
to still be working fifty to sixty
hours per week and is in no view of
retirement. Jeff also tells us that he
is looking forward to spending time
with friends at his Kenyon fiftieth
reunion in 2015.
reports that his new book, The
Trials of Eroy Brown, The Murder
Case that Shook the Texas Prison
System, was published in October
by the University of Texas Press.
He describes the book as being
about three murder trials wrapped
up in a civil rights trial. Stephen G.
Stonehouse, Calabasas, California,
was delighted to be on campus in
August to place his daughter Olivia
into the class of 2015. Steve says the
best was after two months when she
called to say, “Now I know why you
love this place, Dad.” Steve writes,
“I am here at Family Weekend and
the place is special.” He hopes to
see a bunch of his class at this year’s
reunion.
critical thinking, writing skills,
and looking at the big picture have
served me well throughout my
career.” Mark E. Sullivan, Raleigh,
California, spent a weekend in
September in Washington, D.C.,
on the drafting committee of the
Uniform Deployed Parents Custody
Act. The act is being written for
