DESCRIPTION:
Vitamin B6 is phosphorylated by intracellular enzymes to its active form Pyridoxal 5’ Phosphate. Its metabolic
activities include facilitation of transamination reactions, deamination reactions, desulphuration reactions
and decarboxylation reactions. Symptoms and deficiencies of Vitamin B6 manifest primarily as dermatologic,
circulatory and neurologic changes. Pyridoxal 5’ Phosphate is the only form of Vitamin B6 that can be used by
enzymes involved in biochemical processes, which are associated with nitrogen and protein metabolism and
heme synthesis.
