Gift Exchange
Bring your favorite dish (don’t forget a serving
utensil) or beverage to share. The Guild
will provide plates and utensils.
If you would like to participate in the gift
exchange also bring a small, wrapped
basket or basket-related gift.
No committee meet- ings, or
planned program, just good fun with your
fellow basket cases! This social
gathering is fun and the food is always
good!

Basket Sleuths
With the wonderful presentation given by
Lynette Miller at our June guild meeting,
we have been inspired to continue in her
footsteps in asking those questions of
Who?, What?, When?, Where?, and
Why?
SPIKE, The Basket Cat
Dunbar Gardens’ basket cat, Spike,
checks out the willow crop. Leaves are turning
yellow but just beginning to drop.
We don't harvest until after the leaves have fallen.
The monthly guild meetings offer the perfect
opportunity for a member to bring in
a “mystery basket” for attendees to
sleuth out the answers and to help to
broaden our awareness of baskets local
or worldwide.
If you have an interesting basket you
know the details about, please consider
bringing it to our guild meeting for a future
month. Simply set the basket out
next to the mystery basket sign when
you arrive.
Members can evaluate and use our library
books for their research. Then during
announcements, we will take a few
minutes for the sleuths to report and the
owner to tell all.

Programs
We are still looking to fill in a
couple of spots for guest speakers
for next year’s guild meetings. We
know you have some good ideas of who
you want to see! One more hands on
project for a meeting would be great,
too.

2013 Retreat News
Registration is open now, and we have a great line-up of workshops!
Our Feature Teacher is Flo Hoppe, whom many of you may know, either
in person or from her wonderfully instructive books. She will be teaching
many advanced Japanese techniques, and will also give a slide show and
talk Thursday evening.
The Gallery theme is “Come As You Are”, and we hope to encourage those
shy or new members to bring some of their work to show. You can bring
up to three pieces, and we love to see what everyone is doing!
Those opting to receive paper brochures should see them soon, and for the
rest of us, registration is open on our website, www.nwbasketweavers.org.
We now have the option to pay online with PayPal - and you don’t need
to have a PayPal account! Please read and follow the instructions, and bear
with us as we navigate the new technology!

SHOWS TO SEE
High Fiber Diet Show
Oct 25th through Feb 24th, 2013 at the Bellevue Arts Museum. Dorothy McGuinness has 4 pieces
in the show. She saw the show the day it opened and it looks great. Guild members Polly Adams-
Sutton, Jan Hopkins and Christine Joy are also in the show.
There will be a celebration of the exhibit on Friday Nov 16th from 6:30-8pm. Meet the artists, enjoy
music, complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash wine bar. This event is free to Musuem members.
If you are not a member of the Museum and would like to attend there is a special ticket price of
$12 for friends and supporters. Those interested in buying tickets can RSVP online here:http://
www.bellevuearts.org/calendar/rsvp.html. They must mention 'Special individual ticket' in the
comments section. Advance RSVP is necessary, so that they can cater for the right number of
people.
The celebration will continue afterwards with BAMIgnite Party, running till midnight.

Small Expressions 2013 Exhibit
Call For Entries
Small Expressions is an annual international juried exhibit sponsored by
the Handweavers Guild of America, Inc., to showcase fiber art on a small
scale. Call for entries is now open for the Small Expressions 2013 exhibition.
It will be held May 31 - September 7, 2013, at the Fine Line Creative
Arts Center, Saint Charles, Illinois.

Teaching Opportunity
After many happy years of teaching, I have been cutting back and most recently have told the Weaving Works that I am
going to take a long break, at the very least. This was the last and most difficult to let go of because it has been so great
working with and for them. They are a wonderful group of people, super support for my classes and a great creative environment.
One thing that teachers in this group will be familiar with is teaching a mixed group and you do have to be prepared for
that here. You might find yourself with a room full of people who make amazing fair isle sweaters but have not done a
basket before. Which is part of the fun and I must say I have met so many amazing artists and crafts people that I might
not have crossed paths with had they not shown up in one of my classes.
The person to talk to at the WW is Carol Jorstad and she can give you details. It might be best to have a couple of
things worked up to share with her as she will be putting together the next brochure soon. The number is 206-524-1221. If
