DALLAS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY’S
Holy Land Tour
Tuesday, May 29
Our spiritual adventure begins as we depart
from Dallas flying directly to our long-awaited
destination—Israel!
Wednesday, May 30
Late afternoon we arrive at Ben Gurion Airport
in Tel Aviv and drive north along the Mediterranean
coast to Caesarea where we will check into
our hotel for a well-deserved rest.
Stand Where Elijah Stood
Thursday, May 31
This morning we drive north on the Via Maris
to Caesarea where Peter proclaimed the good
news to the Roman centurion, Cornelius. We
will visit scenic Caesarea with its famous Roman
theater, harbor, newly excavated hippodrome and
palace, concluding at the aqueducts. We continue
on to Mount Carmel to visit the traditional place
where Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal.
Next we arrive at Megiddo, Chariot City of King
Solomon, where we will explore its remarkable
excavations. Then we will visit the Mount of
Precipice for a magnificent view of the
Jezreel Valley, Mount Tabor, and Nazareth.
We will pass the Horns of Hittem where Saladin
defeated the Crusaders, before ending our day
by walking to the top of Mount Arbel for a
breathtaking cliff-side view of the Sea of Galilee
and the biblical sites of Jesus’ public ministry.
We will have dinner and spend the night in
picturesque Tiberias overlooking the Sea of Galilee.
Sail on the Sea of Galilee
Friday, June 1
We will spend our day
following in the footsteps
of Jesus. We begin by boarding
a fishing boat to take us
to the “other side” of the
Sea of Galilee and view the
ancient “Galilee Boat” from
the time of Christ. Then on
to the Mount of Beatitudes
with its beautiful view overlooking the Sea and
where Christ
delivered one of his most powerful teachings.
Our next stop is the ruins of Korazin, “cursed
and empty,” before reaching Capernaum, the
city of Jesus, where we will view the ancient
synagogue where Christ taught and the house
where Peter lived. We will visit the shore of the
Sea of Galilee where Christ prepared a meal for
his disciples and asked Peter, “Do you love me?”
and instructed him to take care of his sheep.
We will proceed to the eastern shore, passing
Bethsaida on our way to Kursi, the site where
the demons entered the swine after being cast
out of the demoniac. The culmination of our
day will occur at the baptismal site on the
Jordan River before we return to our hotel for
dinner and overnight.
where Peter recognized Jesus as the Christ. The
breathtaking Banias Waterfall, the site at which
it is believed Psalm 42 was written, is our next
stop before traveling the road leading up to the
Golan Heights (biblical Bashan). Bitter fighting
took place here during the Six Day War. We
will discover why this strip of land is strategic to
Israel. We then return to our hotel in Tiberias for
dinner and overnight.
Float in the Dead Sea
Sunday, June 3
This morning we depart from Tiberias and travel
past Mount Tabor to the Spring of Harod where
Gideon chose his 300 men. We will then journey
down the Jezreel Valley to the ancient city of Bet
She’an to explore the excavations of the major
Roman city that once stood on this site. It is
also the place where the Philistines displayed the
bodies of Saul and his sons after their death.
Early afternoon we cross into Jordan and travel
south through the Plains of Moab where Moses
spoke to the Israelites for the final time and where
they camped under the leadership of Joshua
before crossing the Jordan into the Promise Land.
We will overnight along the shores of the Dead
Sea on the Jordan side in a beautiful spa hotel
where we will swim in this unique body of water.
Stand on Mount Nebo
Monday, June 4
This morning we begin at Bethany by the
Jordan, the traditional baptismal site of Jesus’
baptism by John the Baptist. Mount Nebo, the
traditional burial place of Moses, is our next
stop. It is from here that he saw the Promised
Land he would not enter. On a clear day we may
be able to see Jerusalem in the distance. We then
journey through Wadi Mujib, a magnificent
precipitous canyon. Late afternoon we arrive in
Petra where we will overnight.
Experience Petra!
Tuesday, June 5
This morning we enter the
magnificent city of Petra
where we will walk through
the dramatic Syk—a huge
fissure between two overhanging
cliffs and the only
access to the city carved out
of rock. As we pass through
the Syk, we will view Petra’s most astonishing
monument, Al Khazneh (The Treasury), carved
out of the rock. We will have a full day to explore
the ruins and visit the various tombs, temples,
baths, water reservoirs, caves, and theater.
Walk through Jericho
Wednesday, June 6
This morning we depart Petra and drive north
to the Allenby Bridge where we will cross back
into Israel. We then proceed to Old Testament
Jericho, the ancient Canaanite city where the
“walls came tumbling down.” We continue on to
the Judean Wilderness, where Christ was tempted
for 40 days, before entering the magnificent city
of Jerusalem.
www.dts.edu/holylandtour
JOURNEY TO THE LAND OF THE BIBLE
will walk down this historic
hillside to visit Dominus
Flevit, the traditional spot
where Jesus wept over
Jerusalem, and the Garden
of Gethsemane where Jesus
prayed the night He was
betrayed. This afternoon
we will visit the model of Herodian Jerusalem,
which provides an excellent picture of the city
as it would have looked in the time of Christ.
We will conclude with a visit to Yad Vashem,
Israel’s memorial to the six million Jews killed
in the Holocaust.
Walk the Streets of Jerusalem
Friday, June 8
We begin our day at the original City of David
to visit the platform on which David’s palace was
located, as well as Warren’s Shaft, the “waterspout”
through which David’s forces climbed to
capture the city, and the Pools of Siloam. Zion
Hill, the traditional site of the Upper Room
where Jesus met with His disciples, is our next
stop. We will wind through the narrow streets
and the colorful bazaars of the Old City on our
way to Hezekiah’s City Wall and the Cardo. We
will end our day at the Garden Tomb (Gordon’s
Calvary) for a special communion service to
celebrate Christ’s resurrection.
See the Fortress of Masada
Saturday, June 9
We begin our day by
focusing on the wilderness
areas traversed by the young
shepherd, David. We will
depart early for Masada
where a ride on a cable car
will take us to the summit for a tour of
the magnificent ruins of Herod’s lavish
palace/fortress where Jewish zealots made their
final stand in their revolt against Rome. We will
then drive to the oasis of En Gedi to relive one
of David’s historic encounters with King Saul.
Our final stop is Qumran to see the caves where
the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered before
returning to Jerusalem.
Walk Along the Via Dolorosa
Sunday, June 10
This morning we return to the Old City and
continue up to the Temple Mount to view the
El Aksa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock,
the spot on which Israel’s Temple once stood.
The Pools of Bethesda where Jesus healed the
man at the pool is our next stop. We will visit
St. Anne’s Church before beginning our journey
along the Via Dolorosa (the Way of the Cross)
to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This
afternoon we will conclude our time in Jerusalem
at the southern steps of the Second Temple
where we will sit on the Temple steps where Jesus
actually walked 2,000 years ago. This evening we
will enjoy our final meal together in the land of
our Lord and spend time rejoicing over our days
spent together. Late evening we will drive to
the airport and board our flight back to the
United States.
