Chapter 1 Introduction to Citrix Stage Manager
Introduction to Citrix Stage Manager 1
This chapter provides an introduction to the Stage Manager and gives an overview on the Stage
Manager installation process.
Stage Manager manages virtual machines on Citrix XenServer. With its ability to pool server, network
and storage resources, and move live virtual machines across physical resources with zero user
impact, Stage Manager accelerates change and release management. It simplifies the application
release process with its ability to clone a multi-tier production application in minutes rather than
rebuilding separate configurations in each release phase.
Citrix Stage Manager automates the management and deployment of multi-tier application
environments and other IT services from staging to production. It helps IT operations engineers create
customizable staging workflows for the applications and efficiently streamlines the staging process
across all phases of the release process.
Furthermore, it provides powerful IT administration and access control capabilities over the staging
process. Stage Manager improves the reliability of pre-production process by reducing the risk of
downtime, server sprawl, and configuration drifts. To understand the Stage Manager user interface,
see the Citrix Stage Manager User Guide. It gives a complete description of the product.
Citrix Stage Manager Release Notes
Updated Features and Bug fixes 2
Updated Features
· Support for XenServer 5.6 only
5
Citrix Systems, Inc.

Chapter 3 Known Issues
Known Issues 3
· For this release only ASCII input is supported.
· Does not support the migration of the saved job. Always undeploy(poweroff) and then migrate.
· Upgrade from a beta release is not supported
· Anti-virus software may give false warnings about VMAgent scripts.
· Stage Manager does not support virtual machines without NICs.
· Total storage space shown in Stage Manager for XenServer-pool-storage includes the shared NFS
storage and individual storages (ext-type only) of the hosts in the pool. In case of ext-type local
storage on XenServer hosts in a pool, Stage Manager can generate false warning thresholds. If
you have LVM type local storage, Stage Manager calculates the shared NFS storage only.
· Sometimes a 'session invalid' error is noticed while deploying the VMs. You can retry this
operation.
· When Virtual Switch information for Public Networks gets changed in Stage Manager, you need to
perform an Edit and Save for all configurations that are using that public network.
· SM GuestTools does not work on Windows 7 because of SID incompatibility.
· Windows 7 VM failed to launch in IPZone in some cases.
· Uninstall operation leaves blank folders in AppData under UAC.
· Installers does not install on Windows with UAC off and non-admin user.
· MSI installers work only with operating systems on MSI3 format.
· Windows 7 and windows 2008 server with UAC off and non-admin user, installers error out.
XenServer specific issues
· Export of a Suspended Templates in XenServer 5.6 throws error.(XenServer 5.6 does not support
export of a suspended image)
· While running jobs in IPZones with Windows Vista and Windows 2008 Server VM, Xen-tools may
cause bad checksum for UDP packets sent for DHCP IP request to the router. So, it is
recommended to disable the 'checksum offloading' on the network adaptor after installing the
Xen-tools.
Citrix Systems, Inc. 6

Citrix Stage Manager Release Notes
· The suspend machine-roles operations give error for VMs with old PV-drivers. Therefore, it is
recommended to have the latest 'xen-tools' installed in the VMs.
