For the first time in school history,
Rutgers will play a game televised on
ESPNU as the 15h-ranked Scarlet Knights
host the Orange of Syracuse on Senior Day
at Rutgers Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12
noon.
The Scarlet Knights lost their first
game of the season last Saturday with a 30-
11 setback at Cincinnati. Syracuse (4-7, 1-5
BIG EAST) earned its first BIG EAST win of
the year with a 20-14 win over Connecticut
on Senior Day at the Carrier Dome last
weekend in Central New York.
Rutgers is in a three-way tie for first
place in the BIG EAST with West Virginia
and Louisville. It marks the latest point in a
season the Scarlet Knights have been in
first place in the 16-year history of the BIG
EAST.
Rutgers ranks in the top 25 in eight different
NCAA statistical categories, including
second in sacks (3.5 spg), fourth nationally
in total defense (248.7 ypg) and seventh in
scoring defense (12.8 ppg).
A Special Group of Seniors
Nine members of head coach Greg
Schiano’s first full recruiting class will make
their final appearance of their careers at
Rutgers Stadium Saturday vs. Syracuse on
Senior Day. Rutgers will honor its 22-member
senior class, including nine fifth-year
seniors. Rutgers will honor the following
seniors Saturday prior to kickoff vs.
2006 Rutgers Football
Syracuse: Dondre Asberry, William
Beckford, Anthony Cali, Manny Collins,
Home Field Advantage
finish the season undefeated at home for
the 13th time in school history (137 seasons)
and for the first time since 1984.
A victory over the Orange would also
post the best single-season record in school
Shutting Down the Best
The Rutgers defense has played some of its best football against
several of the nation’s top offenses and players.
Navy entered the Rutgers game ranked first in the nation, averaging
over 350 yards per game on the ground. The Rutgers defense held
Navy to 124 yards rushing and shutout the Mids, 34-0.
Entering the Pitt game on Oct. 21, the Panthers averaged 37.8
points per game, the eighth-best total in the NCAA. In addition, Pitt
quarterback Tyler Palko was the nation’s top-rated passer coming in
the contest. Rutgers held the Panthers to just 10 points and Palko was
held to 169 yards passing and was sacked five times.
Louisville came into the RU game with the nation’s second-best
offense in yards per game and scoring. RU held the Cardinals scoreless
in the second half en route to a 28-25 victory. Brian Brohm had
his worst statistical game of the season and was held to 163 yards
and was sacked five times. He completed just 13-of-27 passes and
was intercepted one time in the loss. The Cardinals finished the game
with 266 yards of total offense, a season-low.
Rutgers has held three opponents to their lowest point totals of
the season - Illinois, Navy and Pitt.
Turning it Around
Rutgers is 16-6 over the last two seasons ... The Scarlet Knights
should appear in a bowl for consecutive seasons for the first time in
school history this season.
“R” House
Rutgers has played some of its best football at home over the last
two seasons. RU is 9-2 at home since 2005, including a 33-0 shutout
of Illinois in the 2006 home opener on Sept. 9. The Scarlet Knights finished
4-2 at home in 2005, tying for the most wins (4-1 in 1994) in the
“new” Rutgers Stadium.
RU is a perfect 5-0 at home in 2006, setting a new school record
for single-season wins at the “new” Rutgers Stadium.
Heisman Trophy Candidate Ray Rice
Ray Rice has quickly developed
into one of the top running backs in the
nation and has put himself into contention
for the Heisman Trophy. Rice,
who rushed for 1,120 yards as a true
freshman in 2005 - the fifth-best mark
among true freshmen backs in the
nation last season - has recorded
seven 100-yard games this season,
including three 200-yard performances.
Even more impressive, in 22
career games, Rice has 12 100-yard
performances.
Rice is fourth nationally in rushing (138.8 ypg) and is tied for sixth
in the nation in scoring (9.6 ppg). Rice has 1,388 yards and 16 touchdowns
in 2006.
New Rutgers Single-Season Rushing Leader
Ray Rice eclipsed a 33 year-old record as he became Rutgers’ alltime
single-season rushing leader on a 13-yard carry in the second
quarter of the Cincinnati game (Nov. 18). Rice broke JJ Jennings
record of 1,353 yards set in 1973 in 11 games. Rice set the new
record in just 10 games in 2006.
Career Day at Pitt
Ray Rice established career-highs in rushing yards (225) and
attempts (39) in the victory at Pitt on Oct. 21. With Rutgers holding a
13-10 advantage in the fourth quarter, Rice broke a career-long 63-
yard run to set-up his first touchdown of the game to seal RU’s 20-10
victory.
Rice set a new school record with his fourth career 200-yard
game in the Pitt win. The 225 yards rushing were the third-highest
total in school history.
Back-to-Back 1,000-Yard Seasons
Ray Rice became just the third player in Rutgers history to record
back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons with his 225-yard game at
Pitt. Rice finished the 2005 campaign with 1,120 yards and has
1,203 yards through eight games in 2006.
Only Terrell Willis (1993-94) and JJ Jennings (1972-73) have
also recorded consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.
Welcome to the National Stage
Several true freshmen have seen increased playing time as the
season has progressed for the Scarlet Knights. WR Kenny Britt
caught two passes for 82 yards against then third-ranked Louisville,
including a game-changing 67-yard reception.
Britt continued his excellent play of late with career-highs in receptions
(9) and receiving yards (91) in the Cincinnati game.
George Johnson is listed as the second team defensive end on
the depth chart. The Glassboro native has 11 tackles and 0.5 sacks in
2006.
Backup tailback Kordell Young was also a major contributor in
the win over Louisville, gaining 39 yards on a screen pass. Young finished
the night with career-highs in receptions (2) and yards (41).
Spirit of ‘76
Rutgers is enjoying its best start since 1976 when the Scarlet
Knights finished a perfect 11-0.
Rutgers is currently among the nation’s top 10 defenses in total
defense, and scoring defense. The 1976 squad was the only team in
Rutgers history to lead the NCAA in total defense (179.2 ypg), rushing
defense (83.9) and tied for the NCAA lead in scoring defense (7.4
ppg).
Under 200 ... Again
In four of Rutgers nine games in 2006, the Scarlet Knight
defense has held the opposition to under 200 yards of total offense.
The Rutgers defense held Navy (ranked 20th nationally at 435
yards per game) to just 161 total yards, marking the Mids' lowest
offensive total since an 82-yard performance against UConn on Nov.
16, 2002.
2006 Rutgers Football

www.scarletknights.com
Navy entered the Rutgers game leading
the nation in rushing offense with over 350
yards per game. The Scarlet Knight defense
held the Mids to 113 yards rushing, including
20 on a fake punt for Navy’s longest run of
the game.
In the 33-0 win over Illinois on Sept. 9,
the Scarlet Knights recorded their first
shutout since Sept. 14, 2002 vs. Army (44-
0).
The 126 yards of total offense by Illinois
was the fewest by a Rutgers opponent since
Oct. 2, 1993, when the Scarlet Knights
allowed 118 yards in a 62-0 victory over
Temple.
Just one week later in a 24-7 win over
Ohio on Sept. 16, Rutgers limited the
Bobcats to 119 yards of total offense.
In the 56-7 victory over Howard, the
Scarlet Knights limited the Bison to 172
yards of total offense.
Two Shutouts in a Season
For the first time since 1992, Rutgers
posted its second shutout of the season in
the 34-0 victory at Navy on Oct. 14. The
Scarlet Knights yielded just seven points in
two other games this season - Sept. 16 vs.
Ohio and Sept. 23 vs. Howard. In the 56-7 victory
over Howard, the Bison scored their only
points on a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Engineering the Drive
Sophomore QB
Mike Teel continued to
show the college football
world what head coach
Greg Schiano already
knows - he is one of the
best leaders at the position
in the country. Teel
directed the game-winning
drive for RU
against Louisville, taking
the squad 80 yards in 11 plays covering
5:15 en route to the game-winning field goal.
Teel was a perfect 2-for-2 on the drive
as RU started on its own nine yard-line.
Winning Ways Continue for Teel
Mike Teel has been consistent in the
most important statistic for quarterbacks -
winning games.
As a starter at Rutgers and Don Bosco
Prep, Teel is 34-2 as his team’s starting
quarterback.
Teel was 23-0 at Don Bosco, including
back-to-back state championships. At
Rutgers, Teel is 11-2 as the Scarlet Knights’
starting QB. He avenged his only loss as the
RU quarterback with last week’s 28-25 victory
vs. Louisville.
Touchdown Leonard!
Brian Leonard is second among active
players in the NCAA in all-purpose touchdowns
with 42. Leonard has 29 career rushing
touchdowns and 13 receiving touchdowns.
He ranks 8th in rushing attempts, 5th in
19th in rushing yardage.
Leonard is the nation’s active leader in
receptions and receiving yards for a running
back.
Leonard Continues BIG EAST Record
Brian Leonard has at least one catch in
all 44 games he has played in during his
career and is the all-time leader in that category
in BIG EAST history.
Leonard had one reception vs. Louisville
to extend the streak - but it was one of the
most important plays of the night. On a 3rd
down and six play in the fourth quarter,
Leonard rumbled 26 yards on a swing pass
to set up RU in Louisville territory that eventually
resulted in Jeremy Ito’s game-winning
field goal.
Rutgers has recorded at least one interception
in seven of its 10 games this season.
In addition, Rutgers allowed 20 touchdown
passes in 2005. This season, the
Scarlet Knights have yielded just six touchdown
passes.
The Judge
Junior PK Jeremy Ito has shown why he
is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza
Award in 2006, given annually to the nation’s
top kicker. Ito is 14-for-18 on field goal
attempts in 2006, including his first career
game-winning field goal at any level with a 28-
yard FG to clinch the Louisville win, 28-25.
Ito is first in Rutgers history with 49 field
goals. The California native is 2-for-2 in field
goal attempts of 50 yards or longer this season.
Foster Keeps Chopping
Eric Foster has returned to his starting
role on the Rutgers defensive line and has
played as well as any defensive lineman in the
nation. After earning the starting job in 2005
preseason camp, the 6-2, 260-pound tackle
was forced to the sidelines with a seasonending
knee injury in Rutgers' second game
of the season last year. He has regained his
spot on RU's defensive line while earning
defensive co-captain status for the 2006
campaign.
In 2006, Foster has 45 tackles, including
12 behind the line of scrimmage along
with 5.5 sacks and eight quarterback hurries.
From the Sunshine State to New Jersey
Head coach Greg Schiano has taken full
advantage of his ties to Florida as the Scarlet
Knights have 21 Florida native on their roster.
Schiano, a former defensive coordinator
at Miami, has had great success in recruiting
the Sunshine State.
Florida standouts accounted for 52.2 %
of the team's receiving yards last season (led
by Tres Moses' 758 yards) and 22.2 % of
the team's tackles (led by Derrick Roberson's
51 stops).
The G-Men
Rutgers boasts one of the top safety
tandems in the BIG EAST and the nation in
Ron Girault and Courtney Greene.
Girault, a junior strong safety from
Spring Valley, N.Y., recorded his seventh
career interception in the 24-7 victory over
Ohio.
In 2005, Girault finished the season
with 86 tackles, three interceptions and four
forced fumbles.
Greene, one of three Scarlet Knights
from New Rochelle HS in New Rochelle, N.Y.
(Ray Rice, Glen Lee), led all freshmen nationally
in tackles in 2005 with 116 stops. He
was named a Freshman All-American by four
different media outlets.
This season, Greene is second on the
team in tackles and first in interceptions.
Hoboken Joe
Joe Radigan has saved his finest for his
senior season. The Scarlet Knights’ punter
has been magnificent, ranking ninth in the
nation with an average punt of 45.0 yards.
His 78-yard punt vs. Illinois set a
Rutgers record and ranked for the thirdlongest
punt in BIG EAST history. He was
named BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the
Week after the Illinois game.
Radigan ranks first in RU career history
with a career average of 40.3 yards per
punt.
