Osiris is a 60ft “Northwich Trader” narrowboat
built in 2004 by the highly regarded RW Davis
of Saul. RW Davis’ boats are built along the
lines of ‘Northwich” boats which were produced
by W.J. Yarwoods in the 1930’s. Osiris carries
the traditional features of these boats, having
replica rivets to the hull and superstructure
and long curved swims.
There is a large 7’ well deck which is covered
by a canvas cratch cover and has a glazed
hardwood deck board. There is seating and
lockers in the well deck and there is a built in
Vetus 6.2 kVA diesel generator under the well
deck accessed by a hatch.
The saloon is entered from the well deck; it
saloon provides the boats main berth in the
form of a double bed which simply folds down
from the wall. The bed is designed to fold away
intact, so that it does not need to be made
up each time. The saloon has a fixed seat
located next to the fold down bed along with a
table. There is also free standing furniture; the
saloon is heated by a solid fuel Hunter Hawk
stove. The galley has fixed units either side
and is equipped with a 4-ring gas hob, oven
and grill, a microwave and a fridge freezer.
There is plumbing for a washing machine
under the work top. There is a walk-through
bathroom between the galley and the engine
room, which has a quadrant corner shower
unit, ceramic basin and a porta potti toilet.
The bathroom has a large airing cupboard,
with calorifier under.
Osiris is powered by a water-cooled Lister
HRW3, with a Lister Blackstone 2:1 reduction
gearbox. The engine is fitted with push / pull
and speedwheel controls. In the engine room
is a Refleks diesel stove with a back boiler that
provides heating to the rest of the boat. There
are side doors into the engine room and when
closed additional light is provided by a pigeon
box with glazed brass ports.
Aft of the engine room is a traditional back
cabin, which is decorated with oak graining
and roses and castles. The back cabin has a 3’
9” wide cross bed and is heated by a solid fuel
Epping range.
