What is 4-H?<br />

• 4-H is a non-formal, practical educational<br />

program for youth.<br />

• 4-H is the youth development program <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Florida</strong> Cooperative <strong>Extension</strong>, a part <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> IFAS.<br />

• 4-H is a community <strong>of</strong> young people across<br />

America who are learning leadership, citizenship,<br />

and life skills.<br />

Age?<br />

• Youth in grades K-12 can be club members<br />

and enroll in 4-H projects.<br />

• K-2 grades: are considered ‘Cloverbuds’<br />

and participate in a noncompetitive learning<br />

environment.<br />

• 3-12 grades: may exhibit their completed<br />

work to be judged for awards.<br />

What is a Project?<br />

• 4-H members have a great opportunity to<br />

participate in hands on activities, learn new<br />

skills, and meet new people.<br />

• Members can choose up to 3 projects. Each<br />

project is designed to increase your knowledge<br />

in that particular subject area.<br />

• Through each project you complete activities<br />

and records, and give written and oral<br />

demonstrations about your project.<br />

• Projects are not only intended to increase<br />

knowledge, but to prepare you for a future<br />

career. You can also win prizes, awards, and<br />

scholarships!<br />

What is a 4-H Club?<br />

• Clubs are the foundation <strong>of</strong> the 4-H<br />

program.<br />

• A 4-H club is a group <strong>of</strong> five or more youngsters<br />

guided by one or more adult volunteer<br />

leaders.<br />

• A club can be any size.<br />

Does it Cost Money to Join?<br />

NO!! There is no cost to join 4-H. Although<br />

there is no charge to be a 4-H’er, some activities<br />

and events are available at cost, which is<br />

usually minimal!<br />
