• The volunteer is very important to 4-H.
Without volunteers, there would be no 4-H
program!
• There are many ways to volunteer with 4-H:
– Programs – Youth Fair
– Daycamps – Chaperone
– Summer Camp – Retreats
– After-school groups – Clubs
– Workshops
• Alachua County 4-H volunteers are involved
in every aspect of the 4-H program, numbering
over 250!

What is 4-H?
• 4-H is a non-formal, practical educational
program for youth.
• 4-H is the youth development program of
Florida Cooperative Extension, a part of the
University of Florida IFAS.
• 4-H is a community of young people across
America who are learning leadership, citizenship,
and life skills.
Age?
• Youth in grades K-12 can be club members
and enroll in 4-H projects.
• K-2 grades: are considered ‘Cloverbuds’
and participate in a noncompetitive learning
environment.
• 3-12 grades: may exhibit their completed
work to be judged for awards.
Choose a Project
What is a Project?
• 4-H members have a great opportunity to
participate in hands on activities, learn new
skills, and meet new people.
• Members can choose up to 3 projects. Each
project is designed to increase your knowledge
in that particular subject area.
• Through each project you complete activities
and records, and give written and oral
demonstrations about your project.
• Projects are not only intended to increase
knowledge, but to prepare you for a future
career. You can also win prizes, awards, and
scholarships!

• 4-H also has a blog. The blog has current
information about upcoming events, as well
as what other 4-H clubs are up to.

What is a 4-H Club?
• Clubs are the foundation of the 4-H
program.
• A 4-H club is a group of five or more youngsters
guided by one or more adult volunteer
leaders.
• A club can be any size.
Does it Cost Money to Join?
NO!! There is no cost to join 4-H. Although
there is no charge to be a 4-H’er, some activities
and events are available at cost, which is
usually minimal!
