President’s Notes:
What can you look forward to over the next year?
One. Our meetings must be interesting and fun! The more enjoyable our
meetings are the more members will want to attend AND will be more
inclined to bring friends and acquaintences as prospective members. I love
this quote from Jerry Hlady: “Club growth and sustainability can be
achieved simply by each of us bringing just ONE guest a year that could
become a Gyro!!”
Two. It would be great to travel more and participate in other club
installations and district events. They in turn will reciprocate. This is
something that Faye & I have done extensively since we became members
in 1994. May 11/12/13 is the District Interim and it’s held in Vernon in
conjuction with their installation.
The 100 th International Convention in June is in Cincinnati which is a long way off, however, it would be
great if a group of us went to the District Convention in Olympia next Sep/2012 “The Ocean is Calling
Again”. In 2005, president Don McLean & Karen, Faye & I attended and we promoted our District Interim
“Roaming in Kelowna”. Ocean Shores was and is a fabulous venue, great location right on the ocean.
I am honored to serve as your president. Faye & I want to keep Kelowna on the map so we hope to be joined
by some of you in our travels. I look forward to my year as your president and want to have lots of fun with
you.
Kelowna Installation Oct 21, 22, 23
Our celebration started on Friday at outgoing President Ted & Marian Grimwood.
Marian in the kitchen, right daughter Jane helping with the bar.

On Saturday, the installation was held at the Capri
Hotel where we had dinner, dancing and the allimportant
opportunity to “RUN WITH PETER”.
What a skit/roast: “Poor Ted just about had to be retreaded
again! Peter was caught running too quickly
though a school zone and knocked over the Bobbsey
twins. Ted saved the day by defending Peter from
being a convicted felon and Peter was sentenced to 1
year as president of the Kelowna Gyro Club”.
Any idea what these gyros and lady gyros are dancing
to?
Oct 11 at Capri, Founder’s Night in charge for the evening, acting president Barrie Black, acting secretary
Warren Sparks and guest speaker/treasurer Miles Treagold.
Miles who spoke of the dilemma that Gyro was in with rapidly
decreasing membership and the lack of getting new members due
mainly to changing times. Miles suggested that we focus on making
our bi-weekly meetings interesting to keep our current membership
interested and let the chips fall where they may.
