Rising up to Show Compassion By Pastor Allan Chichester
This week as I thought about the needs of our world: the many
homeless people whom I met on the streets of Toronto last Sabbath.
The many people who had everything taken from them by
hurricane Sandy, and the information, which I gleaned from an article
in the Toronto Star of June 11, 2012, entitled, “Nearly a quarter
of Toronto residents live in poverty.” I saw great opportunities to
rise up further church in our involvement in the “Ministries of Compassion.”
That this is part of our calling is clear from inspiration.
The Prophet Isaiah declared, “Yet the LORD longs to be gracious
to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God
of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!” Isaiah 30:18, NIV. In
addition, in the book the “The Ministry of Healing” p.106, Ellen
White stated, “…. we need not go to Nazareth, to Capernaum, or to
Bethany, in order to walk in the steps of Jesus. We shall find His
footprints beside the sickbed, in the hovels of poverty, in the
crowded alleys of the great cities, and in every place where there
are human hearts in need of consolation. We are to feed the hungry,
clothe the naked, and comfort the suffering and afflicted. We
are to minister to the despairing, and to inspire hope in the hopeless.”
This weekend join us in worship and workshops as we discover
how we can rise up with God to show compassion.

Parking: All vehicles that are illegally parked will be ticketed and
towed at the owners’ expense. Absolutely no parking is permitted
in emergency access routes. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Prison Ministry Volunteers: If anyone wants to be a prison ministry

50th Anniversary: We would like to create a DVD showcasing of
all of our departments for the 50th anniversary. As a result we are
asking department heads to share pictures, slides, or DVDs of any
special event that they would want featured in the 50th Anniversary
DVD.
From our members we would like to receive pictures or slides of
the pioneers, weddings, graduations, funerals, evangelistic series,
baby dedications, special TWest events involving members, etc.
All of the items above are to be given to Karen Bingham. If you
need these items returned to you, please write your name clearly
on them.

Nov 27 Christmas Gifts Delivery at 10:00 a.m. They are
usually prompt. As before, we will arrange them in the
gymnasium and the pathfinder room immediately as
they arrive. Then we will deliver them on Sunday
December 1, with left overs being delivered Dec. 8.
Dec 1 & 8 Volunteers are Needed to deliver Christmas gifts to
needy families in the community two Sundays
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will deliver more than 1,000
Christmas gifts in the areas around our church. We
need cars, drivers, foot soldiers, young, and old, to
get it done within 4 hours. Rain or shine. Students will
earn community services hours. Pathfinders can fulfill
their requirements. TWest members—this is a terrific
outreach effort that shows our love and care for our
surrounding community. The gifts are provided by the
Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund. We just have to
deliver them. Bro. Sterling was a visible force in this
effort. We need other men to step up in his place.
