REHOBOTH CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES 30 YEARS 30 Years of Summer Camp Four friends at Youth Camp 2006 What did you do on your summer vacation? Not an unusual question, often heard around the office, during break times and around the water cooler. It’s the first question friends ask after the ‘summer break’. Well for 191 Campers, 163 Volunteers and during our Client camp 32 staff; Rehoboth camp was their chosen destination. Rehoboth Camp is not alone in offering summer opportunities to disabled persons in the province of Alberta. There are half a dozen or so other groups that support disabled individuals however, Rehoboth is unique. Rehoboth Camp depends on trained volunteers to be matched up in a one to one team of Camper and Volunteer for the entire week of the camp experience. Volunteers are trained by Directors and Directors are trained by the Volunteer Camp committee and the Rehoboth Camp Coordinator. The main objective for the Volunteers is to assist the Campers in a safe, fun, clean and friendly week of camp memories. For 30 years, the disabled community has had the choice to make Rehoboth Camp part of their summer vacation. For 30 years, Rehoboth Christian Ministries has been offering a summer vacation destination. For 30 years, volunteers have been showing up, to assist disabled persons to have the Rehoboth Camp Ministry experience. It is my prayer that Rehoboth can provide another 30 years of excellent summer vacation opportunities for our friends with disabilities. Rehoboth Camp Ministry offers five weeks of summer vacations. Out of these weeks only one has paid staff assisting Campers with their needs, the other four are all staffed by volunteers. Next year, in 2007 Rehoboth Camp will be hosting a new Camp opportunity, call the ‘Supported Camper Week’. This camp will allow persons with high needs who are outside of the Rehoboth family a choice for summer vacation. They along with their supports can attend a five day camp during the week next September. (more information will be on the website soon.)
