Curriculum Review Highlights Year

and physical education bou1
reviewed their curriculums this
year in hopes of fine-tuning the
education u1ey provide.
The music department
prepared for a fe-evaluation of
their prog ram in hopes o f
receiving anothe r ten-yea r
accreditation next fall. The
physical education departmem
also reviewed its prograrn and
CUlTicuium so they can offer a
wider va riety of degree programs
in the future.
Some activities in me music
department included the Music
Education Club attending me
Student Music Educator's National
Confe ren ce (SMEC). The
students broad ened th e ir
knowledge by listening to music
educatio n s peake rs and
performances by variolls music
groups. 1110se students interested
in teaching chonls also attended
a convention. The Am erican
Choral Director's Association had
their convention in March in San
Antonio, Texas.
"\Ve are one of the largest
depalt ments among Christian
colleges and universities. That
allows us to offer the students a
wider va riety of options that any
student of music can benefit
from," said Dr. \ViJliam Hollaway,
chaillllan.
The activities in the physical
education department included
a semi-annual newsletter sent to
students, alumni and faculty of
u1e depaltment. One of U1e
most drastic changes in the
department was a name change.
At the end of the fall semester,
the administration approved a
name change to the "ki nesiology
department. "
Dr. Wilt Maltin, chairman of
the department, had many goals
he ho ped to achieve both
immediately and in the long tenTI.
"My long-term goals consisted of
developing a more in-depth
involvement of ule physiology
laboratory and also expanding
our efforts in the \'{Iellness
Program. We also wanted to
update our curriculum to expand
our degree offering," he said.
