PRAYER OF PREPARATION: Psalm 34:7, 8 (ESV Pew Bible Page 464)
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh,
taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
TIDINGS OF THE CHURCH
An Unaccompanied Hymn
My Shepherd Will Supply My Need
Amazing Grace
Nick Hudson – Bagpipes
CALL TO WORSHIP: * Doxology (Hymn 731)
Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heav’nly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
SILENT PRAYER/INVOCATION
(8:10) Dr. Light, (11:00) Mr. Irvine
HYMN 35 * ........................................................... My God, How Wonderful Thou Art
CONFESSION OF SIN * Adapted From a Puritan Prayer (Unison)
O Lord God, I lean hard upon your reminder that divine grace precedes,
pursues and ever sustains my salvation. Your grace initiative in Calvary’s
cross justifies my sin, renews my heart and rules in my inner being.
How vast are my undeserved privileges in Jesus Christ! Without him I dare
not lift up my guilty eyes; in him I gaze upon my God and Father. Without
him my lips are sealed by shame; in him my tongue is loosed for praise and
petition. Without him the future is all darkness; in him eternal glory fills a
boundless horizon.
Praise be to you, Father, for the unspeakable gift of Jesus my Lord! Amen.
ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE: * 1 Peter 1:3–5
CONFESSION OF FAITH: * The Apostles’ Creed (Inside Front of Hymnal)
SONG OF PRAISE * O Worship the King, Hymn 2, Stanza 5
Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in you do we trust, nor find you to
fail; your mercies how tender, how firm to the end, our Maker, Defender,
Redeemer, and Friend!
BAPTISM OF COVENANT CHILDREN (11:00)
BENEDICTION AND RESPONSE *
POSTLUDE: Highland Cathedral –Roever and Korb
Bagpipes
*Worshipers, please stand if physically able.
We welcome Nick Hudson as our guest musician this morning. Nick graduated from
Carnegie Mellon with a degree in Bagpipe Performance and Music Education. Nick teaches
individuals and local pipe bands as well as playing pipes in the Pittsburgh area. Bagpipes
may have originated as early as the 1 st century, now the national instrument of Scotland. A
set of bagpipes consists of an air supply, a bag, a chanter (played with the fingers to produce
the melody), and drone (pipe or pipes producing a sustained pitch). As you listen, imagine
these instruments played en masse for military use and formal occasions. The kilt Nick is
wearing is the "Ancient Carnegie" Tartan, which is a "sub-tartan" of the MacDonald clan.
Please complete the white VISITOR card in the pew for first-time visitors. Hereafter, with
the rest of the congregation, complete a blue slip each week you worship with us.
Greeters at 8:10 AM: Marilyn & Chuck Taylor and Shirley & Frank Nolt. Greeters at 11 AM:
Mary & Paul King and Dottie & Gordon Gerhard.
Sanctuary flowers are contributed by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Catherine) Figart in loving
memory of Cathy’s father, Arthur Hess; and by Mr. and Mrs. Anson (Skip & Jackie) Loose
in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary.
Children’s Worship
Children’s worship will break for July and August. We see this as a time to ease the burden
on our dedicated volunteers, as well as to encourage our families to worship together. Please
be understanding and supportive of our young families as they seek to “parent in the pews.”
World (MTW). Pray with them that God continues to establish his church along the border.
