Here’s what is new in this workshop...
After attending a basic Animated-LiteracyTM
workshop, many teachers report that they are
comfortable
introducing the alphabet characters and
their stories, songs, and gestures along with the basic drawing and
labeling activities, but that they would like additional assistance moving on to the advanced labeling activities
and making full use of the pattern songs and writing activities. This workshop will focus on using the drawing and
labeling lessons and pattern songs to (1) increase the students’ vocabularies and knowledge of word function
by creating, reading, and writing increasingly complex noun phrases, verb phrases, and similes, (2) introduce
and reinforce vowel spelling patterns in the context of the drawing and labeling lessons, (3) teach students how
to transfer words and phrases from the drawing labeling lessons to pattern songs and sentences through the
word substitution process. These activities will increase phonological awareness, vocabulary, comprehension and
editing skills. (4) teach and reinforce sentence construction and punctuation through the use of pattern songs
and sentences from Animated- LiteracyTM and quality children’s literature and (5) develop an understanding of
the universal stages of language development and use these stages as scaffolds to move students from early to
increasingly complex levels of literacy development. These activities will increase vocabulary, comprehension,
word recognition and visualization.
