The recommendations from the Public Library Review
process target TAL and APLEN; activities in 2009 will
allow for further exploration on how the public libraries
will develop over the next three years, as well as clarify
the role for APLEN in this process.
The SuperNet Services Team will work towards pilot and
implementation of some of the services that require the
flexibility of the SuperNet network.
The Technology Infrastructure Committee is working
towards the development of recommended standards for
technology for public libraries, of all sizes.
Training initiatives will move forward, particularly in the
area of emerging technology, and new ways to deliver
training opportunities.
Digitization will move beyond the creation of an
inventory for public libraries, to the creation of
digitization projects for small public libraries, leveraging
the work that TAL’s post-secondary sector has done in
this area.
Training initiatives are expanding to include modules
on emerging technologies and Web 2.0 features.
This training initiative will model the use of Web 2.0
technologies (blog, wiki) and encourage library staff to
start exploring the use of these tools in the provision of
services to their communities.
Work with Alberta Health Services — Edmonton
region on a provincial project focusing on consumer
health needs.
