We hope that this vision will capture the spirit and the imagination<br />

be united in our call to share the transforming Gospel <strong>of</strong><br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> our journey<br />

The <strong>Diocese</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucester</strong> seeks under God to be a resilient,<br />

dynamic and transforming gospel presence in and around<br />

<strong>Gloucester</strong>shire, empowering people and communities to lead<br />

authentic and faithful lives in a rapidly changing world.<br />

The <strong>Diocese</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucester</strong>’s mission,<br />

purpose and objective<br />

Our <strong>Diocese</strong><br />

You belong to the <strong>Diocese</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucester</strong>, which is the Anglican<br />

family <strong>of</strong> God in and around <strong>Gloucester</strong>shire. A diocese is a group<br />

<strong>of</strong> parishes gathered around a bishop forming the fundamental<br />

unit <strong>of</strong> church life, organisation and mission. Our communities are<br />

served by some 327 parishes, 390 churches and 116 church schools.<br />

The <strong>Diocese</strong> covers the county <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gloucester</strong>shire and parts <strong>of</strong><br />

neighbouring counties. It runs from the Welsh border in the west to<br />

Lechlade in the east, from beyond Chipping Campden in the north to<br />

Chipping Sodbury in the south and is home to over 600,000 people.<br />
