Store hours: 9am to 9pm.(858)259-0110 Morning Hospitality Continental Breakfast will be served daily in the Derby Room at the Host Hotel, Tuesday through Saturday from 6:00am - 10:00am. Copies of each days issue of “The Daily Surf Report” newsletter will be available in the hospitality room. Are you in need of coffee? Inside of Albertsons you will find a Starbucks location. Directions from host hotel: Leaving the parking lot, turn right on Jimmy Durante Blvd. Turn slight right onto Via De La Valle for 0.5 mile. Shopping Center will be on the right side of the road. In need of show clothes? Did you arrive only to realize you’ve left your favorite pair of dog show shoes under your bed? Have no fear! You are only five minutes away from a Marshall’s that is locally known for it’s great selection! Directions from host hotel: Leaving the parking lot, turn right on Jimmy Durante Blvd, turn right on Via De La Valle, merging on to I-5 North. One mile north, exit at Lomas Santa Fe Dr. (exit 37) turning left on Lomas Sante Fe Drive. Turn left on S. Solana Hills Dr, which becomes San Rololfo Dr. Marshalls is located at 685 San Rodolfo Drive. Open 9:30am-9:30pm. Surf’s Up! Welcome Book Page 6 LongShots began at the 1998 Specialty in Rhode Island after Pat Long had been given a blue backdrop & studio lights as a birthday gift by her husband. That first year Pat conducted seven sessions & raised $350. In 1999 Joye Neff attended her first National Specialty & began assisting Pat with Long- Shots; Joye helps get the expressive looks on the dogs in the photos - speaking from experience, she is an expert at shaking bags of treats & squeaking toys at just the right moment. Over the years LongShots has raised nearly $50,000 with the funds raised going to a variety of Berner charities. LongShots will be located in the Wyland Center near the vendors & will be available Tuesday thru Friday. Sessions are first come, first served. However, elderly or ill dogs will be given preference & moved to the front of the line. Don’t miss this great chance to have your dog’s portrait taken!!! LongShots Portrait Photos A session is about 25 photos, give or take. We ask for a $50 donation which will go to Bernese Mountain Dog charities. Costs of all materials are donated by Pat Long. You’ll receive a CD with the photos on it & a printed copy of at least one of those photos. Let us know if you’ll want to have more dogs done at different times, we can wait to create one CD with all the photos together & if you want to share a session with someone else we can do that too. We’re flexible! Oh, & Pat doesn’t limit the sessions to Bernese, she’ll even try to do photos of you with your dog - she & Joye will try their best to make you look as beautiful as your Berner! LongShots portraits have been seen in publications such as BMDCA National Specialty catalogs, BMDCA yearbooks, The Alpenhorn & Front & Finish magazine. Surf’s Up! Welcome Book Page 15
The Specialty Triathlete Award is given to each Berner/Handler Team that qualifies in 3 or more different working venues at the 2011 Specialty. The eligible events are tracking, herding, rally, obedience, agility and draft, and the performance must be at the regular titling level. The award is offered by Ruth Nielsen and the Mazama Mountain Dogs. The winners of the Specialty Triathlete Award will each receive a unique Triathlete Bag filled with goodies. In 2009, 7 teams earned the award & in 2010, 13 teams. Will you take the challenge this year? There will be Berner-Garde volunteers on-site this week, Wednesday through Friday to assist in updating your Berner’s information.
