NADCA 2012 Board of Directors Election
Information Packet

Basic Information
Name:
Bill Benito, ASCS, VSMR, CVI
ASCS Effective Year: 1994
Years in NADCA: 21
Street Address: Bridle Path
City, State: Broadbrook Connecticut
Company Name & Profile
Connecticut Steam Cleaning, Inc. Est 1982
Specialty Cleaning of HVAC Systems, Kitchen Exhaust Systems, High Surfaces,
Building Exterior and Parking Garages.
1) Why do you want to be a director?
I was elected to the Board of Directors in 2005 and have served two 3 year terms. When I got
on the Board, the Regional Conferences (now called Technical Conference) had been eliminated.
I have a passion for training and education and convinced the Board to give it one more chance
and we would have a successful, well attended meeting. Working with another Board member,
Tim Hoysradt and some Regional Coordinators, I was able to change the format and build on it
every year since to the great Technical’s we now have today. I also laid the ground work and
format for the QCT (now called the VMT) entry level training. Working with Matt Mongiello,
we have produced a good, low cost entry level training for new employees adding another
member benefit to the list. As Chairman of the Marketing committee I was able to increase our
marketing budget with the results of more exposure and recognition in the media. There is still
more work to be done and I would like 3 more years to do even more.
2) As the industry evolves, what do you feel NADCA’s role will be?
NADCA was the center of the IAQ universe in the early 90’s and played a pivotal role in many
of the other industries and organizations that developed since then. Over the last 10 years
NADCA has been an influence around the globe (hence our new logo). I feel that we will have
even more influence and play an even bigger part with setting standards that will be recognized
and utilized by many other Nations.
3) What is NADCA’s weakness and how can it be improved?
Right now NADCA has about the same number of members for the last 4 or 5 years. We need to
make it more beneficial to join NADCA and more cost effective to stay a member. We also have
more work to do on Brand Recognition so consumers will say “NADCA is the trusted authority

that I will use”. Exposing Scammers and “blow and go” contractors is a good start. The Date
Line NBC with Chris Hansen got us a lot of good press, now we have to build on it.
4) What do you feel you have to offer the Association if elected?
I have been in the industry for over 30 years and a member of NADCA since 1990. I have been
to every annual meeting and know our history, strengths and weakness. I have served on almost
every committee NADCA has had. I presently serve as 1 st Vice president and on the executive
board. I feel that the experience I have is an asset to the Board and will apply it to whatever
projects I am asked to work on.
5) What are your goals for NADCA and the industry?
Over the last year or so I have stepped back from the Technical’s and have spent more time
looking at our costs and where we can get the best “bang for the buck”. This has been a tough
economy for all of us and through good fiscal policies NADCA is in good financial shape. I want
to work even harder in this area.
I want to see NADCA working closely with other organizations and related industries. I would
like to see a goal of respect for what we do and what our employees do. I will know we have
achieved this goal when we are no longer “duct suckers” and considered a important trade with
technicians.
6) What should the NADCA membership know about you (personal objectives)?
I really enjoy this industry. I enjoy teaching, including teaching some “old dogs new tricks”. I
enjoy a real challenge that starts when someone says “it can’t be cleaned”. At some point I am
going to lesson my day to day work load (retire? Yea right!) and spend more time traveling to
help other members and maybe do more hands on teaching.
7) If you possess a controlling ownership interest in any business that designs or sells
duct cleaning franchises, duct cleaning equipment or products, or support services for use
by individuals or entities engaged in the business of duct cleaning systems, then below
please disclose the name, location and brief description of controlled entity.
In addition to being owner and President of Connecticut Steam Cleaning, Inc., I own Scand Tech
USA in South Windsor CT, we manufacture and sell duct cleaning and inspection equipment.

conditioning system assessment, cleaning and restoration and technical support. Our educational program
helps explain sensitive Indoor Air Quality issues to building occupants.
Colombia.
1) Why do you want to be a director?
I would like to be a director in NADCA to contribute my ideas, knowledge, and time for the benefit of this
industry and its members. I am interested in helping NADCA maintain its leadership position in the HVAC
Inspection Maintenance and Restoration industry. It is also my wish to somehow pay NADCA back for all
the help I’ve received while developing as a professional in this interesting field.
2) As the industry evolves, what do you feel NADCA’s role will be?

Be the primary source in educating the customers and members of the industry and to assist its members in
providing high quality service to their customers. Develop and actualize the key standards regarding HVAC
Inspection, Maintenance and Restoration work.
3) What is NADCA’s weakness and how can it be improved?
In the same way that our association evolved from NADCA “The National Air Duct Cleaner association” to
NADCA “The HVAC Inspection, Maintenance and Restoration Association,” we should evolve and stop
calling ourselves “contractors” in order to call, consider, and develop ourselves as professional specialists
providing our clients with good (acceptable) Indoor Air Quality. The introduction of our ACR 2006 said
“Maintaining clean heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) Systems is an important part of
sustaining acceptable indoor air quality. This new focus will open up a new world of opportunities to our
member and bring bigger benefits to our clients.
3) What do you feel you have to offer the Association if elected?
My commitment, enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge acquired in the past twenty years for the benefit of
our industry and our association which has helped me develop and grow professionally and of which I am
extremely proud of being a member.
4) What are your goals for NADCA and the industry?
My goals for NADCA are helping to foster growth in our membership and looking at new horizons as are
Latin America and Spanish-speaking countries.
As individuals we all seek growth and as an association we all want our membership to grow and I am eager
to serve as a cultural and commercial bridge between NADCA and Spanish-speaking nations.
Also assisting in maintaining our position as the number one source for the HVAC cleaning and restoration
services, training and educational materials
6) What should the NADCA membership know about you (personal objectives)?
My personal objectives are transmitting the knowledge I have acquired in the industry for the benefit of all
those colleagues who are just starting in the industry, as I once was, continue developing new friendships in
NADCA and maintaining the friendships of those who are already my amigos.

Basic Information
Name: Dan Stradford
ASCS Effective Year: 2010
Years in NADCA: 20
Street Address: 787 W. Woodbury Rd., #2
City, State: Altadena, CA (Los Angeles region)
Company Name & Profile
Action Duct Cleaning Co, Inc.
Founded by Dan Stradford in 1978
33 years in business
4 offices serving all of California and more than 15 states
1) Why do you want to be a director?
To be of service to NADCA and its members. I have enjoyed working with NADCA for 20
years. I have been in the duct cleaning business since 1978 – this is 33 years of successful
executive experience as a problem-solver in finance, organization, marketing, public relations,
legal and other areas. I also have thirteen years in science and medicine as the founder and
president of a medical nonprofit called Safe Harbor. I would like to bring my share of
knowledge and experience to the table on behalf of NADCA to improve the duct cleaning
industry and enhance the success of its members.
2) As the industry evolves, what do you feel NADCA’s role will be?
The field of indoor air quality is a growing and evolving one. We see legislation in some
countries already, mandating measures to ensure or improve IAQ. Contaminated HVAC systems
are a known factor in indoor air quality, and I see NADCA working with government agencies,
the world of science, HVAC associations and other organizations to set standards for indoor air
quality and how to achieve and maintain it. Additionally, I feel NADCA will do more to educate
the public and distinguish between professional NADCA companies and fly-by-night schemes
that misrepresent our field.
3) What is NADCA’s weakness and how can it be improved?
One of the great sore spots for duct cleaning companies is the fact that the EPA and some other
organizations will not recommend duct cleaning as an IAQ remedy. The reason is because they
believe that few scientific studies show the value of duct cleaning. Factually, a number of
studies have supported the value of HVAC cleaning. I think NADCA’s greatest weakness is the
lack of scientific documentation regarding the need for our services. The truth is that all of us
have seen many systems that were filthy, spitting out dirt, had mold growth, etc. We know from

a commonsense view that this is not hygienic. I am a writer with a health/science background. I
believe it would be quite possible to do a thorough review of existing scientific studies and, if
necessary, further controlled studies and show scientifically when duct cleaning is valuable and
when it might not be.
4) What do you feel you have to offer the Association if elected?
As noted earlier, I have 33 years of experience in the duct cleaning field and years in the medical
field. I am also a published author with more than forty years experience as a writer. I am
current chairman, lead writer, and editor of NADCA’s task force to create a position paper on the
use of chemical products in HVAC systems. This has been a joint effort for months,
coordinating the work of other NADCA members and EPA and legal representatives. At
NADCA’s invitation, I took part in NADCA’s Strategic Planning Session on Nov. 30-Dec. 1,
2011, near Washington, D.C. to assist in broad-range planning for the organization for the next
3-5 years. I have published more than 250 articles – including many nationally and
internationally for the duct cleaning trade – and have two books slated for publication in coming
months. I believe my executive, writing, and scientific experience has been and can continue to
be valuable to NADCA.
5) What are your goals for NADCA and the industry?
I want to see NADCA members prosper and, whatever NADCA does, should move us all in that
direction. This includes increasing demand for our services and educating the public on the
importance of HVAC cleaning. As a veteran in this industry, I can state without question that
NADCA has dramatically improved our field already through setting standards and educating the
membership. I would like to see NADCA continue to refine and improve its education
programs. Also, as stated earlier, I would like to see scientific validation of our work so there is
a clearer understanding by the public, government agencies, and industrial hygienists on the
impact of contaminated HVAC systems on indoor air quality.
6) What should the NADCA membership know about you (personal objectives)?
One of the books that I have written, to be published in early 2012, is a project near to my heart:
The Men’s Code of Honor – 66 Rules of Conduct That Make a Man. I believe that, whatever
tasks we take on in life, we should try to do them well and responsibly. I believe that, imperfect
though we may be, we should try to run our businesses honestly and put more into the world than
we take out. NADCA has helped my company become more professional in fulfilling our
clients’needs and delivering services that I can be proud of. I would like to continue to raise the
bar for myself and my company by tapping the wealth of knowledge and experience this
organization and its membership has to offer.
7) If you possess a controlling ownership interest in any business that designs or sells duct
cleaning franchises, duct cleaning equipment or products, or support services for use by
individuals or entities engaged in the business of duct cleaning systems, then below
please disclose the name, location and brief description of controlled entity.
I have no such ownership at this time.

NADCA Board of Directors Questionnaire
Basic Information
Name: Rick MacDonald
ASCS Effective Year: 1996
Years in NADCA: 21
Street Address: 320 Sylvan Lane
City, State: Manchester, NH 03102
Company Name & Profile
Armstrong Heating & Power Vac, Inc.
720 East Industrial Park Dr. Unit 9
Manchester, NH 03109
Our company started in the heating business over 45 years ago and at that time started air duct
cleaning with a vacuum truck and hand blower. Over the years our duct cleaning practices
improved and we stopped performing heating service so that we could concentrate on the growth
of proper air duct cleaning and chimney service. We now offer comprehensive HVAC system
inspection, maintenance, and restoration to everything from mobile homes to industrial facilities.
We also perform dryer vent cleaning in homes and commercial applications.
1) Why do you want to be a director?
To continue the work I have been doing for the membership as a director over the past
three years. Having been a NADCA member for 21 years, membership has been of
immeasurable value to me because of the training and knowledge I have gained through
NADCA meetings and events. I believe in volunteerism and want to give back to the
association and members by running for a second term as a director.
2) As the industry evolves, what do you feel NADCA’s role will be?
NADCA will continue to lead as a Standard setting association for the HVAC Inspection,
Maintenance, and Restoration Industry.
3) What is NADCA’s weakness and how can it be improved?
NADCA needs to continue the task of promoting our message. This is not only an air
duct cleaning association; it is an HVAC Inspection, Maintenance and Restoration
Association. Now we need to more effectively get this message out to the full spectrum
of potential clients from residential to industrial. This will help to increase opportunities
for our members.

4) What do you feel you have to offer the Association if elected?
Experience as not only a business owner with employees, but also someone who started
working in the field as technician actually doing the work. I want to continue to work on
the committees I chair and others assigned to me by the association President. I, along
with others, worked very hard elevating the Regional Training Seminars to the next level
and now NADCA offers a two track “Fall Technical Conference”. We need to continue
on this path offering meaningful training that many of our members request. We need to
increase opportunities for our members that set us apart from others who do not believe
in continuing education.
5) What are your goals for NADCA and the industry?
To have NADCA maintain a leadership role in our industry and be used as the “go to”
organization for answers to questions concerning HVAC Inspection, Maintenance, and
Restoration Industry. I would like to see our association (NADCA) and the members
promote the benefits of HVAC system hygiene and provide additional information about
the benefits of our services to end users. This will include energy savings realized by
insulating and sealing leaky ducts as well and maintaining clean air conveyance systems.
6) What should the NADCA membership know about you (personal objectives)?
My livelihood as well as the livelihood of my family, employees and their families is
important to me. My objective is to assist NADCA membership in realizing the market
share potential they can achieve by providing legitimate verifiable services.
7) If you possess a controlling ownership interest in any business that designs or sells
duct cleaning franchises, duct cleaning equipment or products, or support services for
use by individuals or entities engaged in the business of duct cleaning systems, then
below please disclose the name, location and brief description of controlled entity.
