SUPPORTING PRO BONO<br />
Thanks to the following faculty members who<br />
participated in Pro Bono Clinics held in<br />
conjunction with Legal Aid <strong>of</strong> NorthWest<br />
<strong>Texas</strong> during the fall semester <strong>of</strong> the 2010-<br />
2011 academic year: Associate Dean and<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Arturo Torres (3 clinics), Associate<br />
Director for the <strong>Law</strong> Library Uwe Beltz (1<br />
clinic) Pr<strong>of</strong>essors Barry Bell (2 clinics),<br />
Dustin Benham (1 clinic), Gerry Beyer (2<br />
clinics), Vaughn James (4 clinics), Dale Jones<br />
(1 clinic), Brian Shannon (1 clinic), Larry<br />
Spain (7 clinics), and John Watts (1 clinic).<br />
The <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> faculty co-sponsored two Pro<br />
Bono Clinics held at St. John’s United<br />
Methodist Church during the month <strong>of</strong><br />
September and assisted with three Pro Bono<br />
Clinics during the fall semester organized by<br />
the Student Public Interest Initiative (SPII),<br />
Volunteer <strong>Law</strong> Student Association (VLSA)<br />
and Family <strong>Law</strong> Society. All students in both<br />
sections <strong>of</strong> the Civil Practice Clinic<br />
participate in the Pro Bono Clinics as part <strong>of</strong><br />
their clinical work. In addition, the following<br />
students from the Student Public Interest<br />
Initiative, Volunteer <strong>Law</strong> Student Association<br />
and Family <strong>Law</strong> Society assisted at the Pro<br />
Bono Clinics during the fall semester:<br />

The <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>Law</strong> Military Association partnered<br />
with Legal Aid <strong>of</strong> NorthWest <strong>Texas</strong> to<br />
sponsor a Veteran’s Legal Clinic on<br />
November 11 as part <strong>of</strong> the State Bar <strong>of</strong> <strong>Texas</strong><br />
initiative, <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Law</strong>yers for <strong>Texas</strong> Veterans.<br />
These pro bono clinics will be held in the<br />
future on a bi-monthly basis. Students<br />
participating in the Veteran’s Legal Clinic<br />
included the following: Andy Hefferly,<br />
Valerie Finella, Chase Hales, Abigail Rosen,<br />
Marshall Meringola, and Heather Carson.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Larry Spain also assisted.<br />

2008-2009) finished the<br />
Tax LL.M. program at the<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Houston and<br />
is working for Field,<br />
Manning, Stone,<br />
Hawthorne & Aycock,<br />
P.C. as their newest tax<br />
associate.<br />
Matt Collier (Tax Clinic<br />
Summer 2009) - working<br />
for Collier Construction,<br />
Inc. in Brenham, <strong>Texas</strong>.<br />
Susan Watson (Civil<br />
Clinic 2009-2010) is<br />
working in Amarillo at the<br />
Whittenburg <strong>Law</strong> Firm<br />
doing immigration and<br />
civil litigation<br />
Paul Miller (Civil Clinic<br />
2009-2010) is working at<br />
McCreary, Veselka, Bragg<br />
& Allen, P.C. in Round<br />
Rock, <strong>Texas</strong>. He is<br />
currently working on a<br />
petition for writ <strong>of</strong><br />
certiorari to the United<br />
States Supreme Court.<br />
The case involves the<br />
dormant Commerce<br />
Clause and they are<br />
optimistic that the<br />
Supreme Court will grant<br />
cert and hear the case.<br />
Mettie Judd (Civil Clinic<br />
2009-2010) is working at<br />
Carrington, Coleman,<br />
Sloman & Blumenthal in<br />
Dallas, TX. She is<br />
practicing in the general<br />
business litigation section.<br />
Courtney Stamper<br />
(Criminal Defense Clinic<br />
2009-2010) is an associate<br />
<strong>of</strong> Schneider &McKinney,<br />
P.C., Houston, TX.
